Driving to Charleston, SC, which route?

We're looking to drive down to Charleston, SC 2nd week of March and wondering which route would be best? Not the shortest but safer and more scenic.

Last year while driving down to Florida I believe we took the I-79 through Pittsburgh and found the mountains a bit boring and scary at times (extremely foggy early in the morning).

So that leaves us with using I-95 S or I-81S. Between the two, which one would be better considering it'll be the 2nd week of March so weather might not be ideal. No rush to get to destination, as we'll probably spend the night somewhere in the 11hours range from Toronto till there and do the rest the next day. Would appreciate from those who took the other 2 routes to provide some feedback and what we can expect in terms of how the roads are and whether the snow will be an issue or if there are many mountains etc.

Just for a rough mid point reference, I'm using Richmond, VA 23294 as a stopping point after the first day of driving.

We are doing the same thing at the same time and cruising out of Charleston. I was wondering which route would be best as well?

I79/I77 via Pittsburgh PA

I79/I77 passes through the mountains. You need to look at the weather forecast and may have to reroute if snow is expected.
I95 is closer to the coast, so it's likely better during bad weather, but has much heavier traffic especially near Washington DC
