Dry loop DSL

I'm not entirely clear when you would need to pay extra for "dry loop" DSL service (as opposed to normal DSL). My understanding is when you don't have a home phone line. What I'm not sure about is whether the provider you choose for your home phone matters. IE. in Toronto, you'd need to pay an extra fee between $7.25-$25.10/month if you subscribe to TekSavvy for Internet. Would this extra fee apply if you have your home phone through:
  • Bell
  • Rogers
  • TekSavvy
  • Other?
Just wondering what the extra cost of home phone service over dry loop would be..
So long. I'm outta here.

If you don't have a traditional phone line, as in phone line where you plug straight to the wall outlet. You don't need dry loop.

In other word, if you get your home phone service via
1. Rogers
2. VoIP (or anything that goes thru a internet router)

you need a dry loop for DSL.

To avoid this dry loop fee, you need to get Bell home phone (or any company that resells Bell home phone) - ie. Teksavvy.

Home phone service over dry loop is called - wet loop.
