DSL and Landline Service
Rogers just advised me that my current landline service is being discontinued and will be now using Home Phone service. Would this affect my service with DSL? Fortunately, Teksavvy Dry Loop only costs $9.10 a month but does anyone know of any other landline service provider other than Bell?

call teksavvy or post here; http://www.dslreports.com/forum/teksavvy
But if rogers is going to change you over to their crappier phone server (similar to VOIP i think) then you migth have to pay for a dryloop.
If thats the case switch to Teksavvys home phone which will be like Bells regular copper phone line and you wont have to pay for dry loop, also you get the best from teksavvy support._______________

I agree with the other 2 posters and it's what I did when I got the Rogers' letter. The reason they are switching everyone over is because the landlines are Bell lines and Rogers doesn't want to pay Bell any $$$ to rent their lines. They want to switch you over to their own phone system so they get 100% of the profit. Some people don't mind it, but I'll never be interested in Rogers digital phone and all the possible problems that could come with it.
We've switched our phone line to TekSavvy. It is a traditional landline (they resell Bell lines) and it is cheaper than it would have cost us for the same line with Bell and there is no $2.80 touchtone fee that Bell charges.
Also see this thread for some info regarding Rogers digital phone/DSL:

Also bells regular service that teksavvys sell (over copper) is much more reliable then Rogers home phone. Reason being if the power goes out the rogers box has to run on battery so they will die in I'm not sure how many hours. Bells regular service will always work (as long as your not using a cordless phone)
