Duplex property, how do you install two thermostat

One for tenants upstairs and one for tenants in the basement.

How do you deal with this? Currently there is only one installed upstairs.

Unless you have two furnaces, the only way to do this is make it a dual zone system. Which means you need to install baffles that open and close in the main vents. That way if its called for in the basement, it shuts off the air going to the upstairs, and vice versa. If you both call for heat, then both zones open

Everything has been said before, but since nobody listens we have to keep going back and beginning all over again. - Andre Gide

That's the only option then. Its a good setup once you have it done, but not sure of the expense
