DVD Player that plays EVERYTHING
I have a Panasonic DVD player thats pretty picky about what it plays of my burned disks. PowerDVD plays everything on my PC, but its not practical to curl up in front of the CRT with the wife.
I keep hearing about these RJTech and Phillips for about $100.
Can u get a player that plays everything for that low price?
What do u recommend?

i have a new toshiba 5-disc dvd player and it plays like every format imaginable! havent had any problems with any of my burned discs!
it was a good price too at $150. but the single discs run at about $89 or so.
damn! prices sure have come down! the first toshiba DVD player i got back in 2000 was $400! and that was only a single disc one! it had a GOOD run though. over 4 years of constant play before the laser finally died. it was old laser technology too (fat laser, only played like 3 formats). it still plays CDs though, just not DVDs anymore

The RJTech and Phillips 642 are great players. I love my 642 because it plays DivX and pretty much everything else that I throw at it. For $100 it's not a bad deal at all!

Do you get the stupid subtitles popping up for certain DVDs (even if you set it not to in the settings)?
I have to do that stupid step manually for the DVP642 once in a while (didn't seem to matter which firmware I had in there).

All DVD Players being sold today will support burned media - including the ~$50 low end jobs. If you don't want divx (though the 642 is great with it and I love mine) I just grab whatever one peaks your interest.

Do a search for RJTech and you'll see many threads that have compared the two. I've bought no less than 4 of them- one for me, my gf and two friends. I love it. Great picture and sound and does divx/xvid very well. I haven't tried the philips one.
Both Anitec.ca and ncix.com have the rjtech800 for about $85. Go with the one with the lowest cost after shipping, although I've had amazing service from NCIX time after time.

Have you tried it?
I tried it on a plasma display as well as the projector using many DVD movies (and xvid movies). The image was perfectly fine. If you don't play divx movies, then you're better off buying cheaper stuff.

Hey if your planning on getting the Philips just go to the Burlington Best Buy they have tons (I bought one there). I can vouch for the Philips, PLAYS everything I throw at it.

The Philips is a decent player, it does not play all DivX formats. QPEL will not play in this player.
But for $79 (when it is on sale) it is a great value.
You can purchase this player from any where.

more info on the RJTech RJ800dvx?
I was thinking of getting this player, but I've heard a little bit of negativity towards the finish. Just wondering if you guys concur. What color is the display, by the way? Anyone have any nice pictures?
The VGA output would be most useful.
The only drawback is that I probably won't be able to use my yamaha receiver remote to control it...
