Game drive + being a hoarder. Some games take up a ridiculous amount of room. Don't even get me started on video editing.

My threshold for Tier1 1TB TLC 3D or MLC SSD (Intel Samsung or Micron/Crucial) like the MX500, BX300 or EVO is 150$. Hope to see this at BF, count me in for 2.

I have an Intel 512GB SSD from like 4 years ago (don't remember the model number). How fast will the Samsung Evo be comparing to my 4 year old Intel SSD? Thanks.

Man tempting, but still holding. PC already has a 250gb boot SSD, need to replace the 1TB hdd with my VMs on it.

Article quotes an executive from flash company that in one year retail 512GB SSD should come down to $50 USD roughly ($65 CAD) which implies 1TB $130 CAD. That's one year estimate from now.

Up to each person if they want to wait that long.
That's one executive's opinion on the industry.... Here's another article from an industry trade site that has a different opinion - 3D NAND Flash Wars Begin -
The business environment poses another challenge. Last year, the NAND market was beset by product shortages, supply chain issues and a difficult technology transition.

It’s a different story today, as the 3D NAND market is expected to “collapse at the end of this year,” said Jim Handy, an analyst at Objective Analysis. “Already, we are seeing some price declines. Spot market prices have been going down all year.”

The situation is different than many down cycles, which are characterized by weak demand and oversupply. “We are on the verge of oversupply,” Handy said. “The issue is that people are getting more efficient in making 3D NAND. It’s supply-driven. There is no shortage of demand.”

For NAND in general, average selling prices (ASPs) are expected to fall by 24% in 2018 and 23% in 2019, according to Gartner
. In total, NAND revenue is projected to reach $58.7 billion in 2018, up from $53.7 billion in 2017, according to Gartner.

The Samsung 860 Evo will benchmark faster but will I notice any real world difference?
Im running an old intel SSD from 2010 in one of my systems. Barely notice any difference between the 850 EVO im running in real world/day to day tasks. YMMV depending on what you do

This is pretty warm.

Well done, NewEgg.

Ebay shows they sold 802 of those SSDs @ $169.99....that's $136,300 for Newegg in one fire sale! Well i guess the new price to beat is $169.99! See a lot of $179.99, but if $169.99 sold out so quick what are all the others waiting for?

According to this Website the difference is 12-14 % in favor of the Samsung.

But I doubt you would notice any difference in daily tasks like browsing or word processing.
Not even when you copy huge files since the Intel is MLC, the bigger the file, the smaller the Samsung advantage (if any) would be.

It would be hard to justify the expense. I would ride out the Intel. I bet you paid a lot for it 4 years ago and I would also bet that it will be many years before it dies on you. You will probably replace your computer before that.

But if you want it, now that the Ebay deal is dead, the Samsung is only $10 more at $180 Staples.ca
