what do you guys think of ebay AA nimhs? Many of these come from HongKong and some are no name brands.
You can get them for just over $1 per AA compared to local buys for around up to $5 per AA.
Some say don't do it, because a lot of China battery sellers falsely claim 2600mah when they are actually less than 1000mah for a AA battery. Plus, some may arrive as duds.
I've been tempted to buy some just to see, but don't have the equipment to really check the mah rating of batteries.

Shoppers Drug mart (SDM) had some Duracell pre-charged AA batteries for $8.98 about a week ago. For that price, I don't see the need to go on ebay.
I would just keep an eye out for AA Batteries locally. For a little bit more $$, you get the real deal and no issues with questionable China products/marketing.

Bad NiMH are all over the place - they just don't live on e-bay. I purchased a 20-pack of Lenmar AA batteries from Fry's (in the US) a few years back. They were rated for 2000 mAH. Out of 20 of them, none of them had 2,000 mAH - most came in at 1,200 mAH. To add insult to injury, about 25 percent of them were also duds or became duds after two or three charges.
My latest purchase of NiMH was from Radio Shack in the US. They had their precharged LSD AAs on for $2.50 a 2 pack.

If I were you, I would not buy no name NiMH batteries from ebay ... Maybe I was unlucky, one of those MIC no name no label NiMH batteries "melted" my Maha charger

Ever since, I exclusively use MIJ batteries (Sanyo, Sanyo-made Energizer and now Eneloop) ...

I had a Nimh battery from Ebay blow up on my Energizer quick charger, left a black burn mark on the carpet.
It was a loub boom indoors.

Try Deal Extreme instead of Ebay. At least you can get user reviews for the product.

The local dollar stores have plenty of cheap NiMH batteries. As you would expect, the off-brand NiMH batteries range from complete garbage to marginally ok. But there's no way to tell which is which due to the lack of independent testing or user reviews. The specifications printed on batteries are meaningless because there is no standards body enforcing truth in advertising. It's not worth the gamble since the brand name ones have become cheaper.

Wow, the quality of e-Bay batteries must have degraded pretty bad recently. I bought some 2100mAH no name 'green batteries' years ago from e-Bay and they came in from Hong Kong or China. Some of them still in use today. Many are not holding charge anymore, but none of them explode or anything like that while being charged, though I only use slow chargers.

I buy loads of Tenergy batteries from E-Bay. The shipping is cheaper off of E-Bay then buying from their webstore; all-battery.com
These are great for the price. I have not had any bad batteries. Most reviews are good, except that they tend to be slightly over rated. I use them in camera flashes, kids toys... I probably have about 50 AA's. I have some of the Enerloop type clones from them as well._______________

So, how do you figure out that the 2500 mAH batteries are really 1500 mAH batteries? What do you use for testing?

get the sanyo eneloops
You can find them pretty cheaply in places. I got mine at the last Dell deal of the day. THey're best best rechargeable I've found and they hold their charge. Later bought a full batch of them from costco in a kit.
Before that, I tried the panasonic pre-charged batteries and they just wouldn't hold their charge.
So I'm sticking to these eneloops.

From my research you should stick to the nimh's that are made in Japan. They will cost a bit more but I think it's worth it. I bought several packs from ebay several years ago, and they are still working and also holds a charge well. The AA's are Energizer's, the AAA's are Sanyo.
