Ok,
So, I won an auction. In the shipping policy states:
Canada $15, everywhere else $20
I paid for item and $15 shipping - they refunded payment asking for $20 shipping.
I checked auction again and shipping policy is as above, but auction description says:
US $15, everywhere else $20
I didn't see this, or maybe I did - I don't know, but I know I purchased the item expecting to pay $15.
We've had numerous emails go in between us and all along they will not comment / accept that they messed up, I even offered to split the difference on the shipping but they wouldn't.
They have filed a mutual cancellation but I'm thinking of not agreeing so they do not they their final value fee back- kind of like to teach them a lesson for screwing up (I know we all screw up sometimes, but they have not once accepted that they did screw up)
So, would you do the same - or just agree to the mutual so they do get their final value fee back?

You always go by the auction description. That trumps any "standard" shipping policies.
I'd pay the extra $5._______________If anyone needs cheap old blackberries, shoot me a PM...have a bunch $10 and up

As an [rfdlink=/forums/autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78]Ebay[/rfdlink] seller, you should have read the auction terms carefully. You bid, therefore you entered into a contract that if you won, you would comply by the terms. Pay the extra $5. I dont think it'll take food off the table and be a man about it...

My question is not whether I should pay the $5 or not - that, I've already decided. The question is, should I agree to the mutual or not - but from your comments I know your answer to that. I've decided not to agree to the mutual - maybe next time the seller will take more care when listing their auctions to make sure they get it right.
All your points are genuine, I thought I did read carefully, I certainly read that shipping was $15 (I did not read elsewhere in the auction that shipping is $20)
I am also a seller on [rfdlink=/forums/autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78]ebay[/rfdlink] and know if I made this mistake I would eat the $5 - I made the mistake so I would expect to pay - obviously if there was a huge difference in the real shipping and the lower price I would accept I made a mistake and hope to come to some sort of agreement, and as in this case, if it was obvious that the shipping rate in the shipping terms / policy was incorrect, I would have questioned it, however, it will cost $13CAD to ship (including the cost of the mailer bag), so $15US is reasonable - I'm suprised the seller did not take my offer to meet 1/2 way - I beleive I was being very generous here.
My point is, the seller listed 2 different shipping rates, of which I only saw 1 of them (my mistake - yes DUH - I looked in the shipping, returns, payment terms/policy section of the auction - which I presumed was the right place to look but obviously not)LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked Buggie for this post.

I have seen this sometimes on auction where the shipping price (located at the bottom) is different than the auction description. Most likely the seller did like a Mass Add of auctions and didn't change the prices of shipping accordingly.
Yes, people say read the auction carefully next time, but same goes for the seller. As what the seller posts in the auction, it is also his/her responsibility to be accurate and true. As the shipping price in the bottom of the auction is the one that is shown in the searches. For me, I am also a seller on [rfdlink=/forums/autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78]ebay[/rfdlink], I would of eat the $5 because to me, that is my mistake.
If you don't agree to a mutual agreement, then most likely the seller will neg feedback you as s/he will have to pay for the auction fees. You can of course do the same as well.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked Firestorm ZERO for this post.

If $5 really kills the deal, just go with the mutual withdraw, no harm done. :)

If you don't agree to it, the seller will file a non-paying bidder and will leave you negative feedback.
Just agree to it and get it over withLOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked fanaticalLEAFfan for this post.

Out of good will, I think you should just pay up the $5 and get on with it (and a positive feedback as well). You are the one who's screwed up, not them, IMO. If you see discrepency on the description and the shipping subtitle, you should have asked. That's the cardinal rule of eBay'ing pretty much -- Don't bid unless you are absolutely sure of the final S&H cost

Yes you got to think if teaching this guy a lesson is really worth the negative feedback.

I would pay the $5 because I didn't read the auction.

i would blame the seller for my own carelessness and ignorance and not admit fault on my end even though i could've asked and the shipping was posted on the auction.
