Edmonton-Calgary one way rentals

The drive one way is about 3 to 4 hours, which may also include side trips to other places.

Is it worth the extra cost incurred (and possibly mileage) for a one week trip?

Traveling with a group of 6, doing the usual touristy stuff.

Thanks.

IIRC, bus is at least 50$ one way, one 10 min stop in Red Deer.
Voyageur and another company, Red Arrow or something.
3-4 buses each per day. The road is almost strait line. wide separated highway.
35 minutes by plane, 1-2 planes per hour.

For 6, I guess, rent would be the best , cheapest and most flexible option.

Cheers!

I personally believe the best way to see Canada is by car
This gives you maximum flexibility
For both scheduling as well as where your curiosity might take you
(Whole lot to see & do in Alberta than just Edmonton & Calgary)

Not to mention that public transit only really works in the cities, where there is enough population to support it
(Ask anyone who has ever lived rurally, what good old Greyhound, Voyageur is REALLY LIKE)
So yes... renting a car is a must do

For the best rates shop around
Look at the likes of Costco.ca & Costco.com if you are a member
(Some of the best rates in the biz)
Or thru your Loyalty Programs (ie AirMiles)

And is the case with ALL TRAVEL PRODUCTS
Prices increase as availability decreases
So book sooner than later
And look for bookings with easy cancellation policies or price guarantees
So you can continue to monitor prices

There’s not a whole lot to see between Calgary and Edmonton, I live right in between the two cities. Unless you want to venture out to Drumheller or Banff or so.

There's nothing between Calgary and Edmonton. You can definitely go the Edmonton, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff, Calgary route, with an overnight or two for one of the most scenic roads in the world, just make sure to plan ahead, and be aware that the 93 can be closed due to avalanche risk at times. You can also see Drumheller but it is on the East side of Alberta.

There are no extra costs dropping a car from Edmonton to Calgary, one way is certainly viable.

the bus is 76$ each way, Its quite good (red arrow), I take it for work all the time. it leaves from downtown Calgary just up from the street from the Calgary tower, and arrives in Edmonton in the downtown core.

Drumheller is pretty neat to see,

I am pretty sure there is an extra cost to drop your car rental at another location beside the one you are at.

I think with enterprise it was $50

You have to call around to see which company and location offer it.
I did a one way rental from MTL to Toronto.
Cost close to $100 extra, but it was a minivan rental.

My son just took the Ebus (same depots as Red Arrow) Edm to Cal on Dec 22 for $43.94 and Cal to Edm for $46.25 on Jan 6th. Nice big modern tour buses.
