Enabling CD label printing on the ip5000?
So, like many others, I managed to screw Staples on the ip5000 pm. The reviews I read say that in the STATES, the label printing is disabled due to copyright law, and even if you order the CD tray, there is "vital circuitry not hooked up." Anyone got any experience with making this work?

I have successfully gotten my printer to print on DVDs using a ghetto cd tray that I made using instructions from here:
http://pixma.cjb.net/
I have only printed one so far, and its a tad off-center so I am going to see how to fix it. I may wind up making another tray using another diagram found here:
http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...318890#p318890
Scroll down a bit to the white image with the precise measurements
EDIT: Here are a couple of samples that I printed. I could *not* get it to be perfectly centered, so I would recommend not doing a full-page print on the whole cd/dvd if you want it to be completely professional. I am not worried myself as I will just be printing mainly text on them.

Hope this helps,
GYR8

i got my iP3000 to print dvds perfectly now too
gotta stick the tray all the way in when it is accepting the tray though
but the sensors will recognize where things are and adjust length wise

I made a very strange discovery to make the CD tray for this serie of printer.
Canadian tire has the Smoke Alarm for 6.99 on sale.
I bought 2 cause I wanted to change the one in my house... The weird thing is that in the box they have a piece of carton around the unit.. and the circle that is cut out to fit the alarm is the exact same size has a CD... and I didn't have time to mesure yet but it you unfold that piece of carton it seem like it's about the same size has the CD Tray..
I'll try to take a picture tonight.
My point is that it would save ppl time to cut out the exact circle on the CD and it would be faster to make. At the same time if you go and buy that alarm it's not money wasted.

I've seen canon cd/dvd tray kits selling on ebay.com for $21.95 US. I emailed seller and he says he will ship to Canada for the same US $6.00 shipping rate.
