Engine Oil Sale @ Wal-Mart
Sale Prices:
Quaker State (5 L)- $ 11.44
Castrol (4 L) - $ 12.88
Looks like the exchange rate between USD/ CDN is hurting us, the Canadian buyers.
When the CDN was at par with USD, I remember the 'sale price' for Quaker State was $ 8.99.
BTW the 'new' regular price for Quaker State is near $ 20. Compare to before was around $ 15-16.

It's like now $20.99 for 4.4L of Castrol GTX. It use to be $14.99 about three months ago.

I last time I was at Walmart looking to buy some oil, I don't think I saw any royal purple there.

They dont carry Royal Purple, but they do carry the Esso XD-3 in 0W40 and 15W40 which is a great (group IV) synthetic oil for the money.

Canadian Tire sometimes has the Castrol for $12.99 a jug + free filter, so this isn't a deal.

I've never seen RP @ WM. Best price I've seen in Canada for RP was at www.precisiontuning.ca
My new car only has 1000k's on it right now, but as soon as its first oil change is due, I'm either switching to RP or Amsoil. My car needs 0W20 though, and I've only seen 5W20 from RP, but I know Amsoil makes 0W20.
A guy that works at Amsoil told me that he is SPECULATING that since the price of crude oil has been down the last few months, he would think that sometime in February motor oil prices would be dropping. We shall wait and see about that.

I remember buying a the 4L jug of Castrol during Walmart 2008 Boxing Week for $8.xx.
... and I agree, oil is $3x.xx/barrel, so why is a 4L jug selling for near $20? I don't see how the US$ has anything to do with this either. A few years ago when oil prices were in the $40/barrel and the CDN$ was even lower than it is today, a 4L jug of oil was not selling for $20.

The reason is pretty simple: Oil companies are complete SCUM. Look at the price of gasoline and how it has been rising while crude prices are collapsing.

Go with the Amsoil. I use the 0W20 with the high efficiency filter and I change my oil once a year. You might want to switch your tranny fluid and antifreeze over as well when you get to that point as well.
