Canon refurbs are mint - my brother's XSi just arrived and it was like new in box. The XT is still a very capable camera for a newbie, and you cannot beat this price - although $100 more for the XTi and $180 more for the XSi would be tempting, if only for the resale value...

Where can I find a $420 XSi

Yes you can. All EOS EF lenses fit all Canon EOS digital cameras. Canon EF-S lenses only work on EF-S capable bodies, mainly not the "professional" models.
