Is Escort Service Legal?

Wait... is this topic taboo? Will anyone here think less of me for thinking of using such a "service" or can we all drop the pretenses and acknowledge that these places are real and are probably a better alternative to a street walker? Without getting into too much academics, we live in a society that commoditizes anything and everything and sex sells. That said, I remember someone brought up the subject a long while back and I don't recall ever seeing the last of that thread.

Is it legal? Is it grey area like marijuana?

A simple search with "Toronto + escort" will net you a ton of hits. I just wonder what the legal ramifications are.

Actually if I recall correctly paying for sex is not illegal but it is the communication and making a contract for sexual services which is illegal.

In Canada, prostitution is legal. Public solicitation is illegal.

Private solicitation is legal. So long story short, hire a escort to be your date/keep you company (no sex involved). Invite her to watch some TV or a movie in your home or in a hotel (somewhere in private). Once in private, solicitation is legal.

I'm getting my information from some online news stories having to do with some large sporting event and how Windsor (southern ontario) ends up as a gigantic party town with prostitution running wild. They covered how private solicitation is legal, so I have no experience with any of this, and it's only what I've read.

I dunno about that. There are escorts that cater to the high society. Good example of this would be Heidi Fleiss and her escrot services back in the day.

For some people i guess its worth it. Think about it. Business men are good examples of such act as they are on the road for extended periods of time, they don't need the love, all the need is the down and dirty part.

I'm neutral to this.. Meh. I could care less.

I don't know about Toronto, but I read in the Vancouver Sun last year that the Police sometime turn a blind eye into this. There's a small movement here trying to legalize prostitution and they see potential in the escort business.

Escort services are totally legal because you're not paying for sex. But I'm pretty sure the unwritten rule is that it always ends up in sex, just that no one states it explicitly so no laws are broken?

Despite my use of quotation marks, I have nothing to retract. It is a service. Pornography, whether it be a Playboy magazine or smut online, that's a service. This is no different.
