eSports General Discussion, Tournaments, Sector News...

I am surprised no one is discussing eSports given it’s one of the fastest growing sectors with $15.3B grossed by mobile eSports alone last year. I am seeing more and more tournaments cash prizes being organized, some awarding millions of $$ to top competitors.

Is anyone competing for cash in online games? Any companies / tournament organizers that you follow? Would love to hear your experiences!

I am currently personally invested in UMG Gaming. They are a relatively small outlet for now but growing rapidly and very active in organizing online competitions.

The prize pools are going way up for eSports.

A 16 year old wins 3-million USD in the 2019 Fortnite championship:

Usually the top prize for team games like DoTA are around 1.5 million split between a team of 5+
players.

Street Fighter V's 2016 champion took home $250,000 for winning the Capcom Cup tournament.
First place prizes now are only around $35,000 now in 2019 for EVO fighting game tournaments.

For games that have lower prize pools, players like SonicFox whom always seems to win every Mortal Kombat or NeverRealm Studios game
tournament has made over 700K USD. That was accomplished by travelling to and placing first in almost every tournament
ever held for those recently made Mortal Kombats (9, X, 11) and Injustice 2.

Aren't there also wildly different funding models for these eSports too? Evo gets some sponsorship money from the game publishers but that's peanuts compared to something like The International DOTA tournament prize pool, which are mostly funded by players buying up Battle passes... I think Halo also did the same thing a few years ago. Not sure about other games like Rainbow 6 Siege or CS... I assume Fortnite works the same way, and the EPIC funded tournament(s) have prizes that are based on how much people have spent on their game
