Essential phone now $499 USD

Essential has slashed the price of it's phone by $200 to $499 for US

Good deal for those with an amerifriend or can forward it to Canada

Unfortunately phone is only available thru Telus in Canada who of course has not reduced the price

Maybe if wait a bit, amazon.com will show the price drop too and can buy direct and ship to Canada

How hard it is to sell a phone in Canada online?
That is to Moto and Essential phone, which had US business already.

Not a bad phone , but for an non-name phone with so so price, it will not survive in these days.

I am REALLY tempted to buy one at this price and ditch my S8.

Played with one of these in the Telus store and came away very impressed. The in hand feel is better than ANY phone on the market. 99% of complaints against this phone are regarding the camera; it uses an IMX258 sensor which is the same as the excellent camera in the G6. I am convinced this can be fixed in software.

I have a Pixel 2XL on pre-order but I'm thinking about cancelling since I keep hearing about all the screen issues. With this price cut, the Essential phone is $500 cheaper than the Pixel 2XL. I don't know if having direct OS updates are worth $500 to me.

Most of the negative reviews on the Essential were towards the camera software (based on pre-production review units) and the price tag. The camera has been much improved and the price have been slashed so it makes this a very tempting offer. You can even load the google camera app on this phone to get some of the HDR+ software magic: https://www.xda-developers.com/essentia ... ality-fix/

THis company will be DOA. They have sold only thousands of these phones. You will all be complaining in a year.

I wasn't going to pay $1,000 for a phone named "Essential". No cache in that name to justify that price.

Think he is having either an epilltic seize or just a brain fart with the OP's posted price at the top of the thread and just minus the -$200 cred.

The phone is currently $499 on essential's site. (New permanent price)
Subtract the $200 discount offer, it makes the phone $299.

It's a steal at that price. Regardless of how you feel about the phone, a Snapdragon 835 device @ $300 USD is damn cheap.

200$ discount offer is ONLY available for folks who bought it before Oct 22, ie at 699$. It is provided to make them sync with the current 499$ pricing.

How are you going to apply the credit without actually having one ?

What $200 discount offer? Do you mean the $200 credit to buy a new phone if your bought it before Oct 22?

I believe they're offering people who purchased the phone before the price cut the chance to purchase a second phone at $200 off (or off the 360 Camera). So instead of getting $200 back for their first purchase, they can get 2x phones for $998.

Yup, ie the price is 499$ and NOT 299$. :)

how do you get any code that you don't have? you ask online (rfd, reddit, slickdeals forum), friends, family, or buy one at a discounted price.

That's a pretty good price for the phone. I like how Rubin have promised that Essential will get two years of OS updates, but I can't see them lasting two years if they don't sell more phones and make a profit.
