edit: bleh, good thing I have an XD-3 stockpile....stupid XOM, trying to save a buck...

Um, that person was referring to mobil1 now being a group 3 oil right? XD-3 in 0w30/40 is still a group 4 oil right?

Noco. Comes out to ~$7-10/L.

But I've heard Home Hardware now stocks it.

If your car uses 5W30, would using this XD-3 0W30 would there be any pros or cons?

I know the W rating is for the viscosity rating in the winter time. Just wanted to hear some opinions.

Are you just going to assume you can run year-long oil change intervals?
Deal with it.

Absolutely. Just check oil level regularly if you intend to do extended OCIs (15k+)

What is the pricing like at Home Hardware for 0w30?

I just called Noco (Toronto distributor for XD3) today and they want $100.04 for 12 X 1L case.

I bought one litre of 0W30 last month from HH for $6.99 + tax + ecofee = $7.95 all out.

The only possible "con" is that XD 0W30 is not a Starburst SM rated oil so technically for a car under warranty this oil is not permitted.

Awesome, thanks! I just verified the same pricing myself over the phone. For anyone that is interested, they also sell a 4L jug for $26.99. They can order anything that is not in stock and you don't have to order by the case.

Why doesn't everyone use this oil since it lasts for a very long time and prices are same as mobil-1?

Probably because they produce it primarily for fleet operators, most of whom have diesels,
and Esso just lists the important diesel engine specs. it meets.

The people who do used oil analyses say it resembles German Castrol 0w30 most closely,
therefore it probably meets all the LL-01, ACEA and sunburst specs. you would want for gasoline engines.

Because M1 satisfies probably any car warranty which requires 5W30 or allows for 0W30. XD is an HDEO which can be used in a gasoline engine but does NOT satisfy new car warranty requirements.

Because it's not as well knows. Mobil1 has been around for a long time, it's been marketed heavily, and is probably the most well known oil in the world.
