I've got my panel in my garage which is where my plug would be. What would expected costs be? Thanks all.

$500 to $2000? Ask your electrician, get a quote. There are too many variables we don't know to answer.

The EVduty charger made by Elmec https://evdutystore.elmec.ca/ says it requires a NEMA 6-50P receptacle. Is that standard for all chargers? I see some that require NEMA 14-50. Whats more future-proof?

Thanks

I bought all the parts myself from a hardware store and had a nema 14-50 outlet installed. The wire itself will cost you the most depending how far you need to run. They may charge you more for a hard wire charger install or if you are buying parts from the electrician.
$300 seems to be good price. What hardware did you buy other than the outlet?

I'm not sure myself, I feel like I come across both NEMA 14-50 and NEMA 6-50 when looking at EVSEs. The Tesla and Clipper Creek I think both require 14-50, while ChargePoint plug version showed 6-50 (If I'm remembering correctly).

Either way, if you are going to use a plug version, once you have a box mounted with the receptacle, it'll be very easy to change the outlet itself if needed in the future. The main thing is getting the wiring run to where you need.

You'll need:
Wire 8 gauge minimum
Wire clips
Circuit Breaker 40amp
NEMA 14-50 outlet or which ever one you'll need for your charger. This part not needed if hard wiring.
If hard wiring, you'll need a breaker box or whatever it's called close to your charger to shut off power. Just like your A/C unit outside.

Total is ~$100 - 125 + tax

You should be able to find either at Home Depot, Lowes or local electrical store.

The neutral is usually not used in a 14-50 evse, so a 6-50 to 14-50 adapter can be made. Alternatively your receptacle can be re wired to 6-50 fairly simply.

Sorry I forgot that you'll also need a junction box.

I'm only relaying what the electrician told me regarding hard wiring and being up to code. Chargers with plugs will not need one as you can unplug if work is needed on the unit.

Thanks, it's probably better to get the electrician to do everything including the hardware as you can get 50% rebate from the government.

If you are looking to DIY it, I have an EV Duty Portable (the plug in version) that I'm willing to let go of for a good price. PM me for details.

I got my second EV used and it came with this charger, but right now I'm willing to work with the one charger I have installed already (hardwired).

Good news everyone, I emailed Elmec, makers of EVDuty EVC30, asking about a potential group buy for a Level 2 EVSE Charging Station. Eric, the Sales and Business Development Manager, has replied back offering a $75 discount per unit = $725. As per the MTO website, this unit is eligible for rebate of 50%. If anybody is interested, please PM me so I can get this set up in the near future.
