I just bought a pioneer dvr-k05 dual layer burner here:

Nice, small, slot loading portable burner than runs off usb power. They also have other burners and enclosures.

External dvd writer and fax machine
Hi. I'm looking to buy an external dvd writer for my laptop. Less than $70 will be great.
Thanks for your help.
EDIT: Found an alternative to fax machine.Last edited by raptorsfever; Feb 26th, 2007 at 01:36 AM.

Hey that looks nice...any idea if it can be removed from its enclosure and used with a standard adapter?

I'm pretty sure that the drive is removable. They sell the same enclosure without the drive here:
http://www.centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=433
They also sell the bare drive here:

Thanks big - I just noticed that too, while going through the site. Seems like a great deal - how was purchasing through this company? I've never heard of them before. Nice to see they ship all over the place.

I had never purchased from them before. Shipping was just ok. I used the DHL option and got charged taxes and brokerage of about $20
. The item got to Toronto pretty fast, but it took a while to clear customs and get to me in Sudbury. They also sell on here on ebay, which is actually where I purchased it.

Thanks Bigdeal.
But I prefer local to avoid taxes, etc.

Hey Raps, I think I'm going to order one of these shipped to my parents in the US. It will arrive here at Easter. If you haven't found anything within the next week or two, drop me a line and I'll order 2....or more!

He means a regular burner and a 5.25" external USB enclosure. Larger unit than the slim one mentioned above, but works just as well.
For the fax machine, have you considered a fax modem? Even a cheap old external unit will send faxes that print perfectly, unlike any machine you need to feed paper through....US Robotics is the best known (and best) but anything you can find will get the job done._______________

do you have any links to where i can find that? i'm looking at the specs at stores like future shop, best buy, and canada computers. it doesn't really say anything about external usb enclosure.
i think the modem in my laptop is capable of doing that. do you recommend any software i can use?
thanks so much, guys.
