I want to turn my 30 GB Maxtor Hard Drive into the portable hard drive. Any experts here can recommand me a suitable and not pricey external hard disk enclosure? Thanks in advance!

I have a new retail box available for sale. I can even install it for you and test it on the spot.
Generally, IDE & SATA enclosures have come a long way. USB2.0 and heat dissapation make them very reliable and portable. GTA buyers can grab one from me for $25. If your 30GB is a 2.5" notebook HDD I also offer pocket-sized enclosures.

Just did a search and found the description of my hard drive:
MAXTOR 5T020H2 Diamond Max Plus Ultra ATA / 100 20.4GB 3.5IN 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive
It's actually 20 GB not 30 GB. Sorry.

Thanks for providing the model number, you HDD is compatible with my external enclosure kit. PM your contact info and we can arrange to meet this weekend - I prefer Saturday since everyone's busy on Mother's Day.

To be honest, unless you can find an used enclosure, it is not worth putting a 30GB into an enclosure anymore. Any new enclosure will be worth more than the HD. For new, IDE enclosure, i guess i'll recommend
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...re=ACOM%20Data
which is about the same as what you're offered.
As for reasoning for not buying an enclosure, you can get (for example) a 2.5" 60GB (with enclosure) for $60
http://www.anitec.ca/product/10129/m....0_hard_drive/
less if you look hard enough. For 3.5" its even cheaper. Advantage of 2.5 = no need to plug in power.
3.5" (@ staples you can pretty much get it from anywhere) 160GB @ $60 (so for $30 more you are getting 130GB more space while keeping what you have)

Also i believe Futureshop has a 2.5" on sale this week for $90 (250GB) refer to hot deal section.

Thanks for the helpful information, GVRtrader! I guess I better off just buy a new portable hard drive.
