Outdoor photo shoot inquiries

Hi all,

I've got a outdoor beach photo shoot scheduled this weekend and was wondering if I would be able to shoot on public property without being stopped and asked for a permit. I've got a very small team consisting of 3 other people and was thinking of bringing only one studio-strobe on a light stand. Normally, I would just shoot anyways if I was shooting light but in this case, there's a light stand involved.

I don't know if this would be used for any publications but I highly doubt it. If you guys could give your 2cents on it, that would be much appreciated!

Chinese, Indian immigration to Canada slowing, TD Economics

As living standards rise across China and South Asia it appears fewer workers from those countries are seeking immigration to Canada.

Instead, new sources such as the Philippines are emerging as feeder countries to Canada’s fast-growing population of foreign-born residents, according to a new study released Wednesday by TD Economics.

Based on data collected in the 2011 federal National Household Survey, first-generation Canadians or those born outside the country number 6.8 million, or 21 per cent of the population – the highest share among G8 nations, the TD report said.

However, the total share of those coming from China and India – two historically dominant sources of inflows of immigrants to Canada – slipped to 56.9 per cent from 60 per cent in the last census in 2006.

About 240,000 people moved to Canada from the two countries between the census reports, down from 270,000 reported in 2006.

Underscoring the declines is the percentage of newcomers to indicate their mother tongues as either a Chinese or Indian dialect.

In 2006, 40 per cent of recent immigrants reported their primary language as either South Asian or Chinese. In 2011, that figure fell to 30 per cent.

“If you look at their economies, they’re growing a lot faster than we are. Especially over the period we’re talking about [between 2006 and 2011],” Francis Fong, an economist at TD Economics, said.

“The advanced world went through a major retrenchment in terms of their economies and there was much more reason to stay in those countries,” Fong said.

Incomes per capita have indeed surged in India and China over the last seven years while remaining flat – though substantially higher – in Canada through the recession and up to the present, according to IMF data.

Stronger economies combined with recent changes to Canadian immigration policy that have placed more emphasis on official French or English language capacity could mean the downtrend continues, Fong said.

“The share of immigration coming from China and South Asia may continue to decline in the years ahead,” TD said.

This shift could hold negative implications for the Canadian economy, Fong said.

“A lot of the world skilled labour is going to come from those two countries,” the bank economist said. “So there is concern.”

Demographic results were released in the DHS two weeks ago, the first data to come from the voluntary survey, which replaced the mandatory census of years past. Statistics Canada warned results are inherently less reliable than previous censuses, something TD acknowledged in Wednesday’s report.

“Comparability issues aside, we summarize the key trends and issues related immigrants to shed light on recent developments,” the bank said.

Other findings in the report include:

The three Prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have doubled their share of new immigrants to about 20 per cent in 2011, matching Quebec.

The Philippines accounted for 13.1 per cent of all new immigrants to Canada between 2006 and 2011, supplanting both China (10.5 per cent) and India (10.4 per cent).

“Seismic shifts” in settlement patterns were seen during 2006-2011, with provinces like Manitoba and in Atlantic Canada seeing the amount of immigrants surge, partly because of government programs to attract skilled labour.

B.C. and Ontario, which historically have seen three quarters of newcomers take up residence in the provinces, saw their combined share slip to 60 per cent in 2011 with fewer immigrants settling in places like Toronto and Vancouver where the cost of living has climbed sharply.

Is Futureshop / Bestbuy relavent anymore?

With other online etailers gaining strength, who would ever buy anything from Futureshop anymore.

I haven't purchased anything from them in years.

Shopping at Futureshop for electronic goods is like shopping for the same goods at Shoppers Drug Mart. Just really expensive.

Example.... Memory cards are just reeeeeealy expensive. It seems like they are double of what I would consider a good price. I'm looking for Micro sdhc cards, and the going rate for a 16gb card is about 11-12 dollars at NCIX. At FS, it seems like it would be about $16.

Plus any accessory you need can be purchased at Dealextreme.com.

What can you buy at Futureshop for a good price? Asides from software/movies/cellphones, there isn't really much you can get there that you can't find for better prices online.....

Didn't see this posted anywhere, apologize if I missed it. TAG stores are closing down. The first ones in Edmonton appeared in Fall 2012 and now they're liquidating. The website makes it look like its chain wide.

http://www.tagstore.ca/

Pretty good deals to be had. Things are decent quality for what you pay in my opinion. All winter gear is 80% off. Housewares is generally still 40%, and apparel varies from 40-70%. Worth a run through if you're in the neighborhood.

To give you an idea of the housewares their stuff is fairly trendy and a shave above the quality of Jysk so at 40% off its pretty good. To give you an idea of the clothing, there's some great children's apparel (babies is mostly 40%), mens & womens styles are aimed at a 20-40 year old crowd I would say and is about Old Navy quality. Expect to pay $10-15 for shirts and pants after discount and slightly more for jackets. There are some nice athletic apparel and great soft shells for the $30-35 dollar mark.

Happy hunting!

Hey guys, I currently have 15 months left on my 3 year contract with Telus and have about $240 or so left on my device balance for my iPhone 4. I've grown very tired with my iPhone, especially after it became unresponsive and I had to restore/update it and lost my jailbreak, very sick of the vanilla iOS. Past week or so been researching all the other options out there and I've pretty much decided upon the Lumia 920. If it was available on Telus I'd have already paid the remaining device balance & re-upped for 3 years to get the 920, but it's only available on Rogers in Canada. So I'll have to buy out my iPhone (I already have a buyer that I can get 200 for it immediately so will cover most of the rest of the balance) and then sign up with Rogers. Easy enough, but my current plan with Telus is that old student $65 plan (6GB of data, 10 favourite numbers, unlimited text, 6pm local nights/weekends, 200 local anytime minutes) The similarly priced plan right now at $63 includes unlimited national minutes, but only 1GB of data which is atrocious for my needs, easily use anywhere from 3 to the full 6 GB of my data monthly. How likely are they to match the data or at least bump it up to 4 or 5 on the premise that I'm "hesitant" to switch?

edit: Just went through the cart online, there is a plan that has 5GB+1GB bonus but it's $100... lol

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – An Interstate 5 bridge over a river north of Seattle collapsed Thursday evening, dumping vehicles and people into the water, the Washington State Patrol said.

The four-lane bridge over the Skagit River collapsed about 7 p.m., Trooper Mark Francis said. There was no immediate estimate of how many people were in the water or whether there were any injuries or deaths, he said

It doesn't look like anyone has died cause the water level is low. But could a bridge collapse happen over here? In particular involving the Gardiner expressway? It is already crumbling, maybe one day a section will collapse as well?

leavinv a stable job to work in the oil sands?

i heard about an agency called the talent group which are hiring for jobs in the oil sands of alberta. they say you start 20$/hr and overtime is a regular occurrance so there is opportunity to make some good money. my dilemma is i have a stable job here making about the same hourly wage but i will never see north of 20/hr. i dont plan on dojnfg this job for much more than 3-5 years. im trying to build a nest egg for now.

has anyone heard of this agency and specifically hlknow what to expect in rhe oil sanda? i dont know rhe basics of what that job entails but every one says jobs are jn abundance with disportionate rates like tim horton employees making 20/hr because nonone wants to work there. my feeling is i can make some money amd build a amest egg then come back home to settle down.

any thoughts?
