Anyone have experience with FIDO prepaid data add-on?

Hi guys,

Due to my limited usage, I'm thinking about switching from my current Rogers monthly plan to Fido's prepaid.

I plan on buying the $20 credit on a monthly basis and add the following:
- $5 250 text
- $10 100MB data

I was told that prepaid data on Fido will not have access to LTE. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that, and if so, what speed do I get, 3G?

Alternatively, does anyone have other better bang for the buck recommendations?

Thanks

Thinking about switching from iPhone 5 to HTC One

I have been an iOS user since I got my iPhone 4 in 2010 and wanted to jump ship to the HTC One. Before the iPhone 4 I did own a Xperia X10a.
Love the design of the HTC One. Is it worth it to switch over to Android or should I just wait for iOS 7 and the new iPhone 5S or 6.

HTC One is the only Android device I am wiling to switch to. Currently with Fido and now and thinking of buying the HTC One outright unlocked.

Thanks

Hey
I have my own iPhone 3 GS, bought it 3 years ago unlocked from apple store.. It's still in perfect condition, don't really feel like I need to change it.

Though.. I'm looking for a Prepaid or non-contract cheap Plan, from ANY telecommunications carrier in the GTA.. which includes:

- Data (minimum 1 GB).
- Unlimited texts.
- Unlimited calls after 6 p.m & during weekends.

Price range is around $35.. And the company must support iPhone 3gs.

Any suggestion?

Thank you in advance!!

Hi.
I recently bought my little bro a used galaxy nexus from kijiji. It is running the aokp swagger rom. The phone turns on by itself to the locksreen without any prompts and drains the battery over night.
I first thought it was because the battery needed replacing so I bought a new battery, but the same problem persists.

Wondering if anyone knows how I can return the phone to stock Android so that the auto screen on problem disappears.

I've never flashed a phone before and all the tutorials indicate I need to load the rom in the SD card. The galaxy nexus doesn't have micro SD expansion.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

problem solved. I had a nice chat with a customer representative and a manager, told them about my situation. They made adjustments in my account. I realize that talking to a customer representative is very hard, since some of them are very defensive. I called quite a few yesterday, and was being treated badly (some of them thought I was stupid because of my poor oral English). Luckily I finally got a chance to speak with a nice one this morning. She and I both listened to each other's explanation on the bill, and eventually solved the problem.
Thank you for all your opinions. The discussions below are very informative.

I have a billing dispute with Rogers. They charged me more than $500 for sending and receiving text messages. I called Rogers in regards to that problem, and was told that I bear all responsibility. I was simply told that, because my Value Pack (Caller Display, Voice Message, Text message) was removed, I need to pay all the cost.

The Customer Service representatives refused to listen to my explanations. I told them that I did not know text messaging service was included in the Value Pack. They simply told me that I should have known since I was the one removing the service.

What should I do now? I had no success in getting back any credit. I feel cheated.

How to SIM unlock Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 (tested - works)
Hi Everyone,

I'm a long time lurker and benefited greatly from the postings here at xda.
So I'd like to contribute something back.

After trying many methods and reading all the posts in the various S4 forums, I finally found a way for SIM unlock that works for me.

I have tested it, and it works on my T-Mobile S4.

Credit to these posts:

KaneHusky's post for the dialer code
This thread on how to unlock
chavxxx's post pointing to the right final step

Here are the steps:

Goto phone dailer, and enter *#27663368378# for the debug service menu.
In "ServiceMode", select [1] UMTS
In "UMTS MAIN MENU", select [1] DEBUG SCREEN
In "DEBUG SCREEN", select [6] PHONE CONTROL
In "PHONE CONTROL", select [6] NETWORK LOCK
In "NETWORK LOCK", select [3] PERSO SHA256 OFF
It should show:
SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[1]
SHA256_OFF => SHA256_ON
Now touch the first line SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[1]
It should show:
MENU NOT EXIST
PRESS BACK KEY
Current Command is 116631
Now press the menu button and select "Back"
It should show:
SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[0]
SHA256_OFF => Not Change
Again, press the menu button and select "Back", and you're back in the "NETWORK LOCK" screen
Press the menu button and select "Back", and you're in the "PHONE CONTROL" screen
Press the menu button and select "Back", and you're in the "DEBUG SCREEN" screen
Finally, press the menu button and select "Back", and you're back in the "UMTS MAIN MENU" screen
Select [6] COMMON
In "COMMON" screen, select [6] NV REBUILD
Now you are in the "NV REBUILD" screen, you should see the following text:
------------------------------
Golden-Backup exist
You can Restore Cal/NV
------------------------------
Now for the final step.
In "NV REBUILD" screen, select [4] Restore Back-up
The button lights for menu and back should come on, and the phone will auto reboot in a few seconds.
Note: chavxxx's post of selecting "[1] Load default NV" DID NOT work for me.

Congratulations, your phone is now unlocked.
Stick in a sim card from a different carrier and try it out.

Please post followups of your experience with this unlock method.

Thanks, and good luck!

First off, I want to state that
I know that mobilicity are Band IV carriers which go on the AWS 1700 frequency but I keep reading mixed reviews whether it can or cannot support the 1700 frequency.

So, I bought it in the US at target at this link:

and it fails to mention the 1700

GSM arena says that this specific model(p769) which is the same as at target, says it's aws 1700 capable
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_l9_p769-5025.php

I know wind offers a version of this phone, I believe its p760, or something like that.

Other places like Walmart and amazon don't have much for their details on tech specs or don't have a model # specified

My gut says to trust GSMarena over target but it's not a gamble I'm prepared to take, just yet, as I haven't opened it up yet. Wallet trumps gut this time!

If anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated.

Would like to get an opinion on which one would you choose and reasons behind it. It's time for an upgrade and S4 is expensive by $100 through contract. Does it have more features than Note II to warrant the extra cost or is it just because it's the latest one from Sammy?

I would get the Note II personally because of the bigger screen and battery but do the S4 features are that impressive that they negate the bigger screen and battery advantage of Note II? I read that these S4 features are just gimmick, does that mean they're just software that can be modded to run on the Note II through custom ROM by a dev or these features have corresponding hardware on the phone that is not present in Note II?

Thanks very much the help.

So, with the (somewhat) recent news that the new and more affordable/reasonable wireless service providers are most likely shutting down or merging (unlikely on the merge), what do you guys think is going to happen to their plans?
Reason why I'm asking is that my contract is finishing up in a couple months. I've considered Wind as a service provider previously, but before I signed up for my current contract, Wind's reception was still quite terrible for my area. I'm still worried about reception considering its AWS bands (and how they tend to be not so great in the university buildings), but if they are bought out by one of the Big 3, wouldn't they adopt their frequency bands as well?

So what do you guys think is going to happen to their plans? Would current customers of Wind be able to keep their prices? Lose it all or something? Have the plans become something like Virgin/Fido/Koodo?

I've skimmed through the other thread regarding this, but it's slowly becoming a battle of ohmergerd Wind sux..(http://forums.redflagdeals.com/telus-buy-mobilicity-updated-1325955/)

I've skimmed through the other thread regarding this, but it's slowly becoming a battle of ohmergerd Wind sux..(http://forums.redflagdeals.com/telus...dated-1325955/)

New $10 Rogers cell fone insurance program??

*A crx rep at rogers tried to push this new $10 revenue fee when I was inquiring about a new service. Anyone hear of it... I believe it's a rip off. Good idea but price should be half or less...

Basically covers theft, loss, damage, stolen cell phones. They claim 1 in 4 will experience one of the latter and this will protect the customer. Good idea in concept but revenue gouge. Figure a plan is 3 yrs locked-in if nothing happens that's $360 bux down the drain. After 1 yr you lose $120, a new iphone retail with 3 yr plan is $179 (tho retentions can get lower), you save $60. After 2nd yr you lose $240-$179 = $60, 3rd yr lose $360-$179 = $180. So longer nothing happens to your fone the more you lose like any insurance program. By then there are new iphones out anyway so if nothing happens by 3rd yr you lose $360 plus cost of new iphone upgrade. Price shud be knocked down to half like $4-$5 bucks a mos. Like any insurance program, if it happens to you it's great, but if nothing happens you got suckered.

Canadian Wireless Trade Show in Toronto Sept 25-26 - Free admission

http://canadianwirelesstradeshow.com/2013/index.php

From mobilesyrup.com;

The Canadian Wireless Trade Show is back for the 3rd time and its looking like the best lineup yet. Several key mobile execs are making presentations, namely from Samsung Canada, Visa, MasterCard, and Google – so hopefully there will be some good stats on Android in Canada and mobile wallet/payment adoption.

Since this is a trade show there’ll be the usual booths from mobile businesses promoting their products and services. This year the cast of players so far includes Gadget Guard, Incipio, iShieldz and Targus. Admission to the CWTS is free and it’s taking place in Toronto on September 25th and 26th.

Good deal with Rogers iphone 5 - new activation??

K, just want to know if I'm getting shafted... haven't signed or confirmed anything yet. Just got a quote with iphone 5, new activation - currently have existing Rogers services.

*
The deal:

-$50 plan, 1000 daytime minutes, unlimited eve/we, 500mb internet, unlimit text mess., phone features - cd, cw, etc.
-waived activation fee, 3 yr term, iphone $179.99
-1st mos free, first 6 mos 50% off, then $50 mos. thereafter
-additional 12% off monthly cell bill cause I have 3 existing rogers services already - cable, internet, homefone
*
Am I getting ripped if I add on the iphone 5 plan? Anything better with rogers?? Retentions says I can haggle with monthly pricing after 6 mos, says that's their rule when adding on new service. I'm trying to get a drop on the initial iphone cost itself from the $179.99...

Zero reception with Wind at home. Next best plan?

I'm getting no Wind signal whatsoever where I live (Rogers is 2-3 out of 5 bars), between Brampton and Mississauga. As soon as I leave the area, and just about everywhere in the GTA I get pretty good reception, just nothing at my home.

I'm on the $30 plan with Wind. I would prefer unlimited local incoming and outgoing, as well as unlimited texts. What's the next best carrier to switch to? Really not looking to pay over $40 per month, but if that's the only route I'd like a plan with data as well.

I've been looking around and I'm aware of some of the prices for Telus, Rogers, etc. I'd just like to know what you guys think, in case I'm missing out on some good deal or affordable carrier that has reception in particular dead zones in Brampton.

My mother's wireless bill kept getting charged by random ***** for the past few months. One month, she get charged because of receiving a few texts, and let me clarify that the texts are random ads sent from random numbers. This month, she got a charge of "Paper Invoice Fee". What is this sht?

One can argue to save the environment, and save trees. But my mom doesn't know how to use a computer...You can say "Hey you're her son, you should be able to help her pay her bills online". But what about the seniors whom don't have any children to provide them with computer assistance?

This is basically a scheme by Rogers to make up excuses to charge their customers a few dollars more on all of their bills on a monthly basis.

How bout this, why don't Rogers REDUCE a customer's monthly bill by $2, THEN explain to them that if they decide that they don't want to go "paperless", they won't get the $2 "GOING PAPERLESS DISCOUNT".
