since when did "made in china" mean it was well made? Ever since I was a kid, I always knew that "made in china" meant "cheaply made"

It's not fair to say things made in China are made cheaply because China can't make quality things.
The stuff you buy are made cheaply 'cus the big western corporations finds the cheapest factory to make it for you, so they can sell it at a huge mark up.
Blame our Corporations for not demanding quality, blame ourselves for being cheap and rewarding these Corporations by buying cheap vs. quality.

its just an imitation, not fake, president choice has a type of chocolate packaged in a way that makes them look like ferrero rocher. notice how they didn't even show the ferroro rocher sticker because it wasn't a fake, it was just an imitation just like president choice. it would be diff if it had the sticker on it, then it'll be fake and the people are the victim.
and also this is just another method for the bush administration to scare people around the world and make them "anti-china" so that china is forced to open its market and set rules and regulations so that china cannot enjoy such cheap labour and cannot flourish like it is now so that america will always stay on top of the world and the economy.

Cheaply made and having implications on my health are not the same thing. I am willing to buy inferior products if the price is right. I can still use them as they were intended but they sure won't last long compared to made in Japan, USA or Canada. Lead in paint, worms in chocolate, cardboard in steam buns is not cheaply made products, they are dangerous products that no one should consume. The former is acceptable the latter is not.

the cardboard in steam buns was actually a hoax by a reporter.

however, many made in china products have very poor quality control. as chickenbones said already, mainly the fault of the companies who cut their costs and to an extent, buyers who support poorly made products at a lower price.

Apple contracts their Macs out of China. As does Dell. Electronics are permissible. Things you use like iPods or clothes like Gap are also permissible. Things you ingest like toothpaste or chocolate, is a big no no. So if you buy consumable goods, you're doing it at your own peril.
Heads up for those who didn't hear about it. Canadian health agency is considering allowing China to sell poultry in here. I don't need to spell it out to you for you to know this is very dangerous. It could end up in our burgers to other meat products without us knowing. It's bad enough that we have to wade through a bunch of details to make healthy choices regarding the fight against GM foods; now we have to make sure our chicken breasts aren't from China where they're likely laced with dangerous levels of chemicals and most assuredly, growth hormones.
The next time you go shopping for chicken whatever, you better be wise to what you
re buying.

Well if any of you think that the odd magot is never found in a Canadian made chocolate bar give your head a shake. Many years ago I worked for a candy company in Toronto in the shipping dept. We used to get cases of chocolate back due to magots being found in one bar. Usually they were checked recoated and shipped back out. Also this does not mean that the factory is dirty. All it would take is for a fly to lay an egg on one chocolate bar between the time it was made and sent to the next dept. to be wrapped.
