False statement by AMD

Hello: According to AMD The Corsair TX 650 not enough for ATI 5850,What do you think? Is 650W PSU really too

small to run a 5850 and why would ATI/AMD list the 750W

as the smallest PSU for the 5850 card?

Code: Select all

Not really a false statement as certification usually only means that it's tested and proven to work.

From AMD:
Components manufactured by an AMD partner that have received Certified status have been tested by AMD to meet our highest standards for product quality, reliability and stability to ensure a superior customer experience.

The required power is always exaggerated to account for suped-up rigs and poor quality power supplies that do not deliver as much power as they claim. On most systems you could run a 5850 on a 400W unit.

reputable psu makers usually under rate their PSUs. ie. Corsair TX650's real rating is around 750.
