Fido $65 loyalty plan - any way to get new phone?

Last year I got the Fido $65 loyalty plan (month to month, 5gb data and unlimited calling). I brought my Nexus 4 over with me, but now it's getting a little long in the tooth and I'm thinking about upgrading.

Has anyone had any luck with getting this plan shifted into a 2-year contract? Or will I lose the deal I'm getting as soon as I try to get a new phone? Am I better off just buying something unlocked at full retail?

Subsidies no long exists. You pay for it one way or the other.

Just buy your own unlocked phone. It will be cheaper in the long run.

You should be able to get a subsidy. It depends on what plan they classify yours as. Standard, smart (Fido pulse), max. You'll get max subsidy on a max loyalty plan. About $300-400 on smart. And like $150-200 on standard. Then you pay the difference.

This. Don't risk losing a good plan over saving a couple bucks today because it will end up costing you thousands more over the next two years.

Keep the plan. These days, hard to get a plan for $65 with 5GB (unless you have corporate plan).
There are phones out to buy outright and unlocked (e.g., One Plus One, Zenfone 2 etc).
