As far as I know, from my personal research and from people that I know that have worked/work for other provider. At least all of the big carrier; Bell, Rogers, Telus does have a minimum requirement in term of monthly cost to have access to the full subsidy of the smartphones. That minimum requirement is all around 50$

Guess I ain't the only one
Hey Guys ,
I've been with Fido Sept 08 til now . I really never paid attention to my bill really til now that I found this site . I was kind of feeling like my bill maybe not
only high but there's also space for improvement . I'm sue I can get Unlimited calls all across because now that I see that i'm able to I want to be able
to call family and friends in canada without worrying about my bill . Text Messaging and stuff also . Anyway the reason why is because I was looking up
what I would have to do , to get an Iphone 4 . I went to Fido , they said to go to Apple Store cause they didn't have anymore in stock . So got to wait tomorrow ( boxing day )
to go from Iphone 3g to Iphone 4 . Am I supposed to call someone , is that better or should i go speak to someone ? Just a quick question
Well this is my current bill
EPP 200/unl.E/WE+EVE. 5pm (17.50)
Internet Option/ 6 GB ( 30.00 )
Iphone Value Pack + VVmail (15.00 )
Tethering Access (0.00) Thank lord
Evenings starting at 5 p.m (7.00 )
Credit : Eve . Start. at 5p.m. Cr. (7.00)
9-1-1 Emergency Access Fee ( 0.50 )
System Access Fee ( 6.95 )
Somewhere around 70 bucks a month .
My data is fine , is the calls and text and the rest of stuff ... I want it all just like at the rest of the phone companies
I should have unlimited calls and unlimited text without having to pay so much . 30 for internet and 40 on stuff that need to be set up better .
I really don't care how much more perks I can get anything is better for a cheaper price just not downgrade .

Right now, you are paying 70.20$
you mentioned that you want unlimited and you also mentioned that you wanted LD across canada. Moreover you said that you didn't want to loose on what you currently have right now (I'm guessing here that you want to keep the visual voice mail and not only the regular one)
35$ unlimited local call
15$ iphone vp vvm (keep the one that you have)
30$ 6GB data
10$ 100 CAN/US LD
---
90$, on this you would be a 10$ discount on the LD option, making it at 80$. You could also get something similar :
50$ unlimited airtime + CAN/US LD and txt
10$ iphone vp
30$ 6GB data
--
90$, but on this on there is no way to reduce the invoice. If you don't really care about the unlimited but want basically the same thing but at a lesser price then :
35$ 250/unlim + unlimited incoming + CD + 100 can LD
8$ VM
5$ 2500 txt
30$ 6GB data
early night offer
--
78$, on this you could get a 10$ discount on voice plan to make it 68$, if you have a good account could get an extra 5$ off. Tho, for that you get 50 more minutes, unlim incoming and 100 LD while keeping everything else.Last edited by frenchguys; Dec 25th, 2010 at 12:10 PM.

What not to do when calling retention
Some people ask me how to have this or that price plan. Being on the other side of the line, I’ll be honest that I wouldn’t be so good in giving advise on how to get the best deal and the highest amount of credit. What I can provide tho is a “what not to do” if you want to maximize your chance of getting what you’re looking for.
1- The hidden option 7 or inside line. Guess what we know that you’ve gotten that number from these kind of website. We also know that you know that there’s retention plan. Save us time and save us from the long BS story. And don't be surprised if you get an agent that simply doesn't want to assist you and refer you to 611, specially if you call after opening hours. As for the 397-3436 then ext. it's an even worse idea since you're actually calling a specific agent.
2- “My friend/collegue/wife has” - Good for them if they have it at a lower cost, your account is different than theirs, they might also have received the offer when there was more wiggle room in term of credit, or you might simply not be eligible to it. Refering that your friend has the plan will not help your cause specially if they have it with discount.
3- “I know you can do it” - Really, are you saying that you know our policy, what we can or can’t do or even our system better than we do? We’re trying to help you find the better option for you. We know what can be done.
4- Asking for something that even at other provider you wouldn’t get - We’re not stupid and know what the competitor offers. No, the 40$ wind plan does not include unlim calling to India. If you try something like that, be prepared to hear “go to wind!” or at least of having your bluff called.
5- Make as if we never offered you anything - All the offer given to you are also noted on the account. As we receive the call, we do search for previous cx relation memos, and they are quite easy to find. Also we're a little like Big Brother, we actually receive a warning on the phone screen if the account have a pending offer or if there was an accepted offer recently.
6- Repeat caller - As much as the perfect deal that you’ve read was most likely never made in one call. there’s no point in calling everyday or more, you’ve already heard what we could offer you. either accept it or port out. (no reason in making small 611 call either to push down “bad” notes; see #5).
7- “Supervisor will offer more” - No point in asking for a supervisor call to have a better offer. They are there to answer our question, and treat escalation of dispute; they won’t offer you the 5$ more discount. Also contrary to the belief they do not have more power to offer more and they actualy remove an offer as well (especilly if you give them #8), and if a supervisor says that "no other credit will be given" no agent will go around their back (remember #5).
8- Giving attitude - Getting on our nerve, being impolite swearing about bad past experience is not the way to give us that extra push to give that superb deal you wanted. You’ll get the strick minimum in order for us to get rid of you.
9- Not knowing what you want - Come in prepared; Yes, our job is to find the best offer that suit your current usage. But, you’re the one that comes in asking for a better deal. You will be asked what you want and for what price; you should be prepare to answer those question and have a back up as to what other provider can offer it to you. But be careful and read back #4.Last edited by frenchguys; Mar 5th, 2012 at 09:12 PM.

Additional Add-ons - Unlimited Mobile Browsing for mobile phones $10.00
Hey guys! I was wondering exactly how the "Unlimited Mobile Browsing for mobile phones" works?
It's the $10 add on. I had a couple of questions..
1)Exactly which websites will work with this add on? (Facebook, google, etc)
2)It says unlimited browsing, so what's the difference between people buying data and this? (Why wouldn't people just add this to their plan instead?)
3) Will websites like youtube and google maps be covered in this?
4)Say if i have an unlocked iphone, will I be able to use the apps like facebook, twitter and safari with this add on?
Thank you for your help, and merry christmas!

Hey guys just a quick question here.
4 months ago, when I added a second line for my mother but I couldn't get a good deal since it was a brand new line.
However they offered to apply the refer a friend program on my account with both lines instead of creating another one for my mother.
My question is that i still didn't receive this special credit thing, can i simply call in and ask about it?

Hey all.
Wanna ask what you guys think about my current plan (its a retention plan) and whether I can get any further credit/discounts. I am pretty happy with the current plan but im just curious, and would like to save any $$ where possible. Would appreciate help from the experts on this thread and no flames please.
My current plan:
No contract
200 mins
Unlim. Eve/Weekend
Fido2Fido
Incoming calls
Long distance 35 min
Voice Msg
2500 text msgs
= $25
Call display with Name display = $6
Total = $31
Ideally I would like Call display rather than Voicemail so maybe they could credit the call display instead of VM... so my bill would come at a solid $25. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance and Merry Xmas fellas!

Most websites have mobile versions of their own sites, and so most sites should work (like google, facebook, twitter, etc.) The difference between this and data is that this is for non smart phones only, and data is for smart phones (such as the iphone or blackberry.) So to answer your questions, unltd mobile browsing is not for iPhones, you will need to get a data plan if you want to use your iPhone.

-I think it is better to negotiate a plan, which is then noted on your account, BEFORE you go searching for an iphone. Also, retentions might have iphones in stock and might be able to ship you one, saving you the hassle of running around searching for one during boxing week... if not, with a negotiated plan in place, it should be a quick follow up call to retentions to implement your new plan once you've found an iphone. Trying to renegotiate your plan after taking possession of a new iphone i would think be coming from a weaker negotiating position.
-Figure out what your actual needs are. Do you really need unlimited airtime and/or long distance? Skype can offer you unlimited outbound calling to anywhere in Canada+USA (which can also be used for local calls) over WiFi (or 3G, but using it on 3G will burn through your data) for $3/month... Skype (on your iphone) with Fido's $25 unlimited incoming plan might possibly be a viable & cheaper alternative base plan for you... if so, this might be a viable plan:
25$ 200 day/1000E+W/Unlimited Incoming/CID
8$ VVM
5$ 2500sms
30$ 6GB data
total $68, less credits of $8 to $13
Add a Skype subscription and you could have all this for about $58+taxLast edited by thirstyears; Dec 26th, 2010 at 02:06 AM.

Hey guys do you think it is a good idea to buy an unlocked BB 9780 for around $380 and then sign a 2-year contract with Fido with a plan around $35-$40 a month over getting in on Best Buy's boxing day deal where I can get a 3 year contract from Rogers for around $44 a month on a BB 9780 for $124.99 and also get a $200 gift card?

lol, not really... Your VM is part of that plan... my dad is on the same one: 25$ is VM 200 mins, Unlim. Eve/Weekend, Fido2Fido - that's it. You have considerable upgrades on top of that 25$ retentions plan... so the only thing you can is keep calling to swap the VM fro CID, but that involves swapping to a different plan probably without the F2F. And of course any other plan will involved a contract.
It's your call really. Fido - billing by second, rogers - billing by minute. Fido also recently changed all of their plans to early 6pm Eve. & Weekends.
380$ is a really good price for in BNIB IMO, i've seen them for that much in the USA used so its a good deal for Canada.
Also keep in mind you need data to use BBM/email [15$ unlim. email & IM & social networking] or 25$ for 500mb to do ANY browsing on the go [unless you always got wifi around...]
I don't like BB also since they're stuff is often overpriced and forces you to go there :p
Check out Costco Wireless if you have a membership since they offer free stuff like gift cards & cases/chargers.

Sorry for the regulars in this thread, I know these questions get asked every few pages probably but I read the last 3 and didn't really see what I was looking for so sorry to bug you with this question.
I have 13 months on my plan. I had $30 BB data with $5 discount, $10 retentions Value pack, and the $17.50 Killer plan with no SAF and Caller ID.
I had planned to switch to wind, so I cancelled the data and the value pack last week (when you port out, they charge you one month, so I was reducing my monthly bill).
I have decided to give fido a chance to see if I can stick with them.
I'm okay with my current voice plan thats $17.50 but I also need caller ID, a few txt msges (under 150/month) and data. I currently use from 80-120 MB a month based on my usage. I don't need MMS or long distance calling. I am also not willing to sign any contract.
I am looking to pay no more than $40 for this plan. Does this seem doable? I will be calling in tomorrow or the day after but just would like to be a bit prepared. I also have 50 Fido Dollars, is there any use for these if I'm not signing a contract?
