Depending on the plan you are grandfathering, some changes could come into effect if you do not renew before your contract expires. I've seen complaints from people with the first Fido2Fido plans that used to offer the extended network as well as free text messages between subscribers.
You'd have to check your contract or call to confirm, or maybe one of the Fido reps on here could clairfy if your plan would be changed if you do not renew on time.

This is only for the transfer of plans that fall under the grandfather clause. If you're already on a grandfathered plan, the plan itself won't be affected. You just won't be able to transfer your grandfathered plan to someone else.
You can still transfer your plan to someone else if your plan is one of the plans that are currently available.

The Motorola A630 is not in Fido's line-up of phones. So no matter what you do, Fido won't be able to give that to you.

Anyone know how to get on the City Fido plan? Do you still need to pay some $350 activation fee?

You can no longer obtain the CityFido Unlimited plan. This plan has been discontinued for quite some time already. However, people who had the plan before it was discontinued has the plan grandfathered. Furthermore, Fido never charged a $350 activation fee for CityFido plans.

It'll be $9 for CD and VM very soon, if not already.
The CD/VM package is already $9/month. This changed back on September 6th, 2006. Notice that the current $9 CD/VM package is Call Display and Voicemail whereas the old $8 CD/VM package was Call Display and Enhanced Voicemail. The good news is that if you are on the old CD/EVM package for $8, that has been and is still being grandfathered since September 6th, 2006.

If you want to see what you can get, you must phone into Customer Relations. I cannot tell you what they can offer you as what they can offer varies by account. See the first post of this thread. I have a detailed explanation there.

My bill for next month better be $45 plus tax.
Good luck with that & don't hold your breath! When I originally signed my contract with fee credits and/or free services it was NEVER properly reflected in the bill. It was a part-time job having to call fido EVERY month to get the billing straightened out -- sometimes the credit would be there, sometimes it wouldn't, interest charges since I wouldn't pay for the "free" services, etc. And, every time, it was a new CSR who would have to read the entire file containing history of my calls! I would suggest you keep the phone number of the Retention Manager you spoke with & deal directly with him re any billing problems for the contract you agreed to. It will save you much frustration (not all, but some!).

It is too bad on the Hiptop3, but I suspect it is a business decision based on cost. I am a sales rep and everytime I pull that phone out at a customer location a conversation starts up about the phone. Fido is likely missing the point by not carrying the Hiptop3. They get lots of free advertising from its users (I can't believe that I am the only one who gets loads of questions about the phone each time I use it.)
Oh well. Life goes on.
Thanks for the note about the F2R promo. I suspect I may end up on that list as a heavy user, but it won't be worth my while - I have the CountryFido package - and switched away from Rogers to get it!

I am no longer a Fido customer but when I tied to renew my contract in NOV customer relations told me that I could get any GSM phone in the market that they don’t carry and they would reimburse me for the amount of the phone. Try talking to customer relations about it. You have to negotiate the value of the phone they would cover; they offered me $300 for 2 year contract. If the phone is locked you also have to negotiate if they will reimburse for it to be unlocked.
FYI - Always have the CSR text you any offers they make so you have back up if they mess up your bill.

Here is the offer they gave me before:
"Mr. *******, We are proposing a free Nokia 6265i (phone I wanted) on a 2 year contract and you will be refunded on your account or on a credit card. We are giving you a student package 25$ 150 daytime minis, unlimited outgoing evenings and weekends and unlimited incoming calls plus free VM and CD for 12 months."
These people have all the power in the world they can charge you a penny a month if they wanted to, My friend got free CD and VM for 3 years just for flirting with the girl on the phone.

if given a retention plan, will you ALWAYS be required to sign a new contract?
