I have a question... for all the people who have received retention plans were you still on contract when you called to cancel or were you on a month-to-month?

if you were on contract how many months did you have left?

GF has 22 months left on a 24 month contract. She got a better retentions plan then I did and I had to sign a new 2 year contract.

She and I got:


200 daytime minutes
unlimited evenings and weekends
1000 fido to fido
Voicemail (For Term of contract)
Caller ID (For Term of contract)
Call Forwarding (she got this free for 12 months, I wasn't offered it)

$30.45 grand total a month.

I got the following today by signing a 3-year contract:

$20 for following:
- 200 weekday min
- Unlimited evenings and weekends
- 1000 min Fido to Fido
- $10 monthly credit for signing a 3 years contract
- Unlimited calls for the first 3 months for signing a 3 years contract
- Nokia e62 for $50 tax included (after applying my $55 fido dollar) for signing a 3 years contract

Additional: $7.45 SAF and 911 + $9 Voice Messaging and Caller Display (No call forwarding)

So, the total per month before tax: $20 - $10 + $7.45 + $9 = $26.45 / month with Nokia e62 for $50

I have another number with contract (10 months remaining) and the agent gave me the same $20 plan without the $10 monthly credit and no unlimited 3 months local calls.

So, before tax: $20 + $7.45 + $9 = $36.45/month. Still cheap than what I have been paying.

I called for my gf when she was there, just asked for the Student plan because people were getting it without an ISIC. Didn't threaten to cancel at all. She was maybe 4 months in.

Rageguy: I got it by lil bit of smooth talking and being nice. Also I was lucky I hit the right person on the first try, the lady was real nice and we basically spoke through what was important for me and what was not. Believe it or not, i wasnt greedy and at no point did I argue with her. She gave me a choice to get a free phone on a 3 yr term as well.
I was on the 25$ student plan..so I did give up 50 mins from 200 to 150 to get what I wanted. It was more important for me to get Unlmt network calling, cuz most of my friends are on rogers/fido. So that leaves me 150 minutes for bell/telus, more than enuf for me. I am paying $1 for 50 txt msgs, thats what makes it 26 and not 25! Yeah and I get a sweet corporate deal from Telus, plus I added a few things and told her I did not want the hassle of switching carriers so it wud be great if she could work somin out.

As long as you've passed puberty and your voice isn't breaking, just make sure you check with your dad what the relevant information should be (and if he approves of you changing the plan under his name), and then call in.

Lol. I knew someone that did that. He was barely 18 and he tried to imitate his 50 year old dad. The rep called in on it, but he kept insisting he was 50 years old. In the end, the rep didn't do much. All the information provided was accurate.
