Film rolls to digital

I found about 20 or so film rolls that are nearly 12-3 years old.

I'd like to develop them straight to digital.

I went to Blacks and they said itd cost about 11 per roll! They said they have to develop first and then scan. Why develop to paper and then feed the scanner? why not to scan the negatives?

Does anyone know of a cheaper place?

Any direction is appreciated.

Take it any shoppers drugmart that does film processing.
Cost is $2.99 to develop and scan (24/36exp). Some locations will also do medium format.

price to develop AND scan is just 2.99????

Because Blacks is 2.99 as well to develop and then another 4 to scan and then 4 to put on dvd.

Have you done this yourself recently?

Costco is very cheap, especially compared to Black's. I'll believe it.

The price Black's quoted you was just to develop the film into negatives, and then scan them. You wouldn't get prints. (Yes, Black's tends to be expensive.)

Costco and Shoppers will develop and scan for cheap as long as you don't care too much about quality. At Shoppers, at least, scans will be 1500 by 1000 pixels.

Blacks charges you specialty prices and yet Costco and Walmart print outputs are better.
Totally defies logic.
I suppose it is the perception of price/quality!

Yep, only $2.99 at Shoppers. If you bring it in during a weekday afternoon, it only takes an hour for develop+scan. The files are good enough for 8x12 prints.
