Just casually looking into a slide-in filter system...
I'm more than a little confused
With my 17-55, my biggest diameter is 77mm. What happens if I end up with a lens slightly bigger? Or are these square filter systems plenty big enough to support a larger diameter?
So what do I even need? It seems there are so many different sizes, brands, adapters, etc. that seem incompatible.
What are the basics I need? I *THINK* I need a filter, a holder, and an adapter? But I don't even know which items/etc...
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(thanks)

Why bother with filters anymore? Aside from a polarizer, IMO you're better off applying "filters" in photoshop afterwards.

I think the 77 mm might be as big as you go although my son has a Tamron 200-500 that has an 86 mm filter size.
Do you want slide in filters or do you want to get 77 mm filters and step down rings.
If you use step down rings you will have to think about a lenshood.
