I had the same issue, installed a volume boost app, now it's more than loud enough. My kids use it and I can hear it 10 m away.RobHunt wrote: ↑ I bought the HD 8 last year for my MIL to use for whatsapp and viewing facebook; it was fine for most basic stuff.
The only major problem was the volume which was super low in almost all apps, there was volume boost fix which was convoluted, not supported by Amazon and mostly ineffective. In the end the volume issue made it a point of frustration so I replaced it with a much better tablet for the MIL.
I still use it for some basic stuff, was thinking about mounting it for a home automation control panel.

Need to buy a cheap but quality tablet for a family member in Poland when I go in August, anyone think this will be cheaper for PrimeDay (July) or should I just "bite the bullet"? I believe it was $69 last primeday, and the marine colour was also $69 a few weeks back. If it's only a $5 difference, then I might. Anyone think they might do 50% off ($50) on prime day ??? Who's got their crystal ball within arms reach? :P

Got the 10" for the kids, hoping to install playstore and youtube kids.
Anyone know what version FireOS these are running now? It seems 5.6.0.0 is a bit more involved.

I picked up a 10" in the US on BF 2017 for $100 US and I've been very happy with it. Well worth it at $154.

So damn tempted to get this to use for my Home Automation screen, but I just bought that damn video card and remote starter. Need to stop spending. RFD sure is tempting me today.

This is great for media consumption. I use the 10 for movies and comic book reading. It is not buttery smooth. But smooth enough for me considering the price.

Prime members save additional $45 on HD 10 and $25 on HD 8! I was debating whether to get the HD 10 this afternoon and just found out it's further discounted for prime members so it's a no brainer for a $110 device. Also got a $20 case. Will all be delivered by tomorrow

Best deal ever .... as you get another $25 off for joining Prime on a free Trial Basis.
So, net price is $50 and since you are now a Prime member you get it in 2 days.
There are RFD threads on how to turn the Fire HD tablet into a regular Android tablet by installing Google Apps.
