I hate to do this to you OP, but you may wish to consider another type of camera technology called mirrorless. The body sizes are smaller and because they are mirrorless, you don't get the "mirror slap" as you would find in a Canon T6 or SL2. (The mirror has to be raised when you switch to live mode and when you press the shutter, the mirror must be moved out of the way for the light to hit the sensor and then dropped back down). You can also pay $200 for an adapter and you get full access to all Canon EF and EF-S lenses. The ones you may wish to look at are the Canon M100 ($469) or Canon M6 ($699-$729). I would advise against the M50 because, although you get 4k, it is only at 24fps and you crop 1.6 * 1.6 * lens focal length.

involve her in the research/process decision

you can gift her something really capable but what's the freaking point if it just sits there, never leaving the house.

We come here looking for deals. We use the savings on the things we buy to justify buying more things, thus filling our homes with tons of unnecessary consumer products. Such is the key to happiness.
