itunes keep track of all your purchases through your apple account.
when you connect your new iphone it will install the apps if they are compatible with 3gs.

First time upgrading a smart phone?
So, I sold my 3g iphone.... so formatting it is common sense but what about all of the appz I paid for and stuff? How will I get that on my new 3gs? Do I just have to re install them all? Or will itunes, sync them (different phone and different os etc)
any input appreciated, thx_______________

I thought there was a change recently with how Apple handles apps...you know to avoid for example person A paying for an app and synching it on Person B's iphone.
I'll see if I can dig up the article I read about this._______________

Just an update - couldn't find the article I read. I think it might have been part of a live blog re: the 3.0 update on gizmodo, but I can't be sure.
In short ignore what I was talking about :P_______________
