Fishing NEWB
Anyone know any good beginner fishing websites? I want to start fishing because it looks like fun but I have no clue.
How much is a license?
After I catch a fish, how do you throw it back? (You just rip the bait out of the mouth?) Etc... etc...
Oh, and good fishing spots!

Not sure where you are located but licenses are regulated by the provinical authorities, and are required for fresh water and for salt water. You have max limits for fish and shellfish. licenses can also come in one day and seasonal (i think). get the provincial website and look under th Ministry of Land Water and Air Protection, (or Ministry of Environment) or equivalent in your province.
Catch and release, is common amongst sport fishers. It does not hurt the fish to remove the hook with a pair of needle nose pliers, but don't rip the sucker out, remove it gently, holding the mouth open with one hand and gripping the pliers with the other. Give the fish some recoup time before releasing it. Don't just chuck it back in the water as if your throwing out garbage. Let it swim away on it's own accord after it has come out of shock.

i think in ontario the licence for the year cost 18-21 bucks.

I just renewed my fishing license. It's $13.25 for conservation. I'm not sure how much it is for sports. As others have suggested, you can get it at Cdn. Tire.

It's more if you don't already have the 'outdoorsman' card or whatever they call it. It's about 20 for conservation and 25 for the other one.

In Alberta, you need a WIN Card as well in order to get a fishing or hunting license. Costs $80.
The fishing license costs $22 i believe.
When you buy your license, they will give you a guide of all the lakes in the province and what kind of fish are there and what the limits are (# and size). Try to follow it for the benefit of everyone else, plus if you take more than the limit allows, you're technically 'poaching'. Most fishermen catch and release (unless supper depends on it).
Any body of water can be a good fishing spot, you just need to know where the fish might be. Some fish like to be in the weeds, others hang out near the bottom, etc. Lures and baits are another, you can get some advice on what type to use with which type of fish but trial and error works alright too. I find most fish not to be that picky at all.
