Just bought the Charge 2 yesterday from the source, 144.99$ + tx, guy in store was able to put the newsletter -25$ off 100$+ coupon without any issues (they actually have instructions for staff on what to do on the coupon itself (Press F9, type "Other" ... Thought that was funny but ended up very helpful as staff was indeed clueless as to how to apply this on register)). Love it so far, not waterproof like Garmin and others but if you don't plan on going swimming with this, their app and website/dashboard is best in class I think. Very easy to use, doesn't bother me at all when sleeping or during the day. I also have the Aria scale so all syncs and shows up on dashboard/app.

The lowest I had seen this (brand new Charge 2, not refurb or anything) before is 142$ on Amazon a while back so 145$ is a very decent deal.

Went with the Charge 2 due to 2 things ; connected GPS (Charge 2 auto starts GPS on connected phone when you start an exercise like walk/run etc. Alta HR does not have that) and a physical button. And maybe slightly larger screen. Alta HR is tap only and call me old school but I like having at least one button to press on as tapping on these can be hit and miss for me (90-95% of the taps get registered but the remaining 5-10% are annoying as hell). Alta HR is definitely "sleeker" looking and if I was buying one for my mom who has no clue/doesn't care what connected GPS is, I would probably go with Alta HR > Charge 2 due to it being slighlty less bulky.

I find it depends on your wife's usage and needs with the device. My parents birthdays fall on the same day. I ended up getting mom an alta hr and dad the charge 2. Turned out to be a good decision because the alta hr was much smaller/lighter, simpler, and easy to use (Mom is the type to struggle with the tv remote input). Dad liked the charge 2 because there were plenty of features and different workout modes on his device. Functionally, the main difference between the 2 devices is that the Charge 2 supports GPS tracking through your phone.

Also, the standard Alta HR had one band colour that I thought mom would like, the Fuchsia.

My bad. Too early in the morning. Read it as Best Buy instead of best deal.

this video will have the answer to your question, they say there's no big difference between the HR and charge 2
