Those "mom and pop" places are really overrated IMO. Most use generic frozen patties and the ones that do use fresh patties aren't really as fresh as you can get in some of the better places which you describe as "gourmet".

Burger is definitely not bad, but way overpriced IMO. If it was ~$7.50 for a meal, I'd consider it a somewhat fair deal, but this price is just the damn burger. Though I do love how they put the cup of fries in the bag, then throws in another (even larger) container-full of fries into the bag.
In terms of burger joints in that Scarborough vicinity, at least we wouldn't have to put up with the crappy service at Johnny's.

Had it last week at the new location, found that the burger was too dry and a bit undercooked.
Odd considering that the location in Woodbridge didn't have those problems the few times I went to lunch there.

Just went on Thursday evening, place was packed.
Here are my thoughts, in pros/cons:
Pros:
-Tasty/juicy beef patty
- regular burger has two beef patties, if you want a regular hamburger with one patty it's the "little hamburger"
-order of regular size fries was easily twice the size of the cup which spilled into the takeout bag,
-unlimited refills,
-overall pretty damn good fries and the burger was pretty good
Cons:
-Very little offered in terms of extra toppings. As far as I know, only one kind of cheese, which was tasty but remember this place only sells burgers and hot dogs, so it wouldn't kill them to have another kind of cheese available. Also none of the fancy toppings like garlic mayo, chipotle mayo, etc. that you find at most of the burger places in Toronto now
-Price. This place is as expensive (actually MORE expensive) than a lot of burger places like South St burgers, Gourmet Burger Co., Licks, etc, etc. In fact for two cheeseburgers, two drinks and fries it cost over $25.
-No combo option. Like I said, the order cost over $25. This was crazy for what you get.
Final verdict:
-I enjoyed my meal, but I didn't feel it was worth the price. In my opinion, the Gourmet Burger Co. at Yonge St blows this place out of the water in terms of the price/value/variety ratio. At Five Guys there is no chicken, no special sauces, no other cheeses, etc..but it's still $25 for a basic meal. I haven't been to the Licks right across the street, but I have been to a few other Lick's and I would say they are easily better as well. I would suggest trying Five Guys but I don't think it is that good. Then again, people living in Scarborough don't always have a lot of choice.
7/10, suggest Gourmet Burger Co...or even South St/Licks over this place.Last edited by Lawl and Order; Aug 26th, 2011 at 09:06 PM.

Why are people so into Five Guys Burgers?
Try them at Kingston and New York City, both are horrible experience in my opinion.
I had better experience having Hero Burger, Craft Burger (or Big Smoke Burger now), Red Robin (when I was at Baltimore) and GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen in UK).

Tried them a few weeks back, not great but not bad either. You get tons of food. But in terms of the Scarborough location, it would be hard press to get me to go again since Goody's Diner is just a stone throw away. Way better food there.

If you go to Five Guys too often, you're going to end up being large enough to be the 5th guy!

Seriously, when four co-workers and I go to five guys, we take turns ordering a single order of large fries so all five of us can share it!_______________- Casual Gastronomist | Does It Blog? -
