Do both - Make the Firebird a 2 seater on the Zeta platform with the LS1 or LY7, do a Trans Am as a Firebird with the LS6, and a GTO a 4 door coupe on an extended Zeta platform with the LS1,

man every time i look at that pic i get shivers. those rims would of course not make it to production. Now all they need to is make a 'Bandit' edition with tasteful gold trim and buy the name Trans-Am.
Some nostalgia;

G8 looks a lot different than that. This is a Zeta car, closest to the Camaro it looks like. What's up in the air is whether it's going to be produced for Pontiac and if so what they're going to call it (GTO or Firebird).
Funny enough these Zeta cars are clearly based on the 1999 GTO Concept (yes that's right the "new" 2008 Camaro is really not new at all), but despite that I'd like to see this particular car as the Firebird given the history of the Camaro/Firebird sibling status...
As for the LS1 that's long gone, it would probably carry the LY7 for the 6 cyl. version (that's what the Camaro has no?) and the LS2 for the 8 cyl. version. However the LS3 is not out of the question either, depending on if they continue production of the LS2 or not...
I'd also like to see a GTO "in addition to" but considering the G8 will be a rear driver I'm thinking GM will probably go for either/or on the Firebird/GTO, not both.

LS1 long gone? GM makes and sells crate motors no? I'm sure they could bring back engines from 50 years ago if they wanted. I'm thinking if they put in LS2, it's going to start competing with the higher end GM models (2007 Corvette still uses LS2 right), and the people who buy it will probably like the LS1 better anyway since the performance potential is still there.
