i have an fm transmitter that has 4 usb plugs up front.. had to take it apart and adjust a pot inside to change the frequency.. not very good
the part that makes it all crap is it can only provide 1.5 watts to all 4 usb ports, so i can't charge my phone AND run the mp3 player.
that usb flash one would be more interesting to me if it would provide +5V over the usb link

It seems you have a crappy mp3 transmitter (of course, ebay) more like the one i am looking for. How will be the sound quality??..never tried one b4. Since, this version has only one usb output, it shd be well enough to charge ur mp3 player. FYI, u have the option to plugin a usb memory drive to play mp3 format songs..remote feature seems to be handy..any suggestions on this one..

that one seems more like what i was looking for, make sure whatever you buy has a wide range of possible stations to use.. the sound quality on mine, not a clue.. i'm profoundly hard of hearing/deaf. it sounds ok to my brother who has above average hearing.
I do notice that you have to turn the radio way louder than normal on mine, compared to CD or regular FM.. mine's obviously not a quality fm transmitter

Yup, my thoughts exactly. So i bought one yesterday. When it arrives, I'll post here again
It also comes with that long wire, suposedly broadcasts better? Who knows. I HOPE Sony ones sound better than a non-brand name one.
Its $29.99 + tax... oh well, not sooo bad. A Belkin II is selling for $40 at FS and BB right now. So heck, why not.

2 quick questions..
does the 3ft cable has 3.5mm (obviously) or 2.5mm (suprisingly) jack?
I will be surprised if this unit acts as a standalone mp3 player with an external usb memory stick?

The cable if you are talking about the one i think you are, is a transmitter. Not a jack for the MP3 player.

So, you cannot connect ur mp3 player other than usb port? I wonder why? Most of the fm transmitters have an option to connect with 3.5mm jack of external CD/mp3 player.

The other end of the cable connected to the transmitter has 3.5mm jack.
Some useful details from an older version of sony transmitter

Not sure if I understand your statement. Here's what I think this Sony one can do:
Plug MP3 player into the device, it will broadcast it to a FM station. Then, at the same time, you can connect a USB cable from the MP3 player to the device as well. This will charge the MP3 player.
But it does state this charging feature only works with Sony MP3 players. But it may work for other brands.
