Most Sobeys locations I've encountered have a lottery terminal and sometimes sell city transit tickets too.

That's how I've been spending the majority of my $150 GC.

It was the Kipling/Queensway location that I used Sobeys GC to buy other GCs. Haven't tried other locations, but imagine it should be the same.

This sale is back on.

Deal active from August 26, 2016 to September 1, 2016.

Same rate of return @ roughly 14%.

PLUS you can use these GCs at other groceries stores such as Sobey and freshco.

Excellent point JH! I just got an Amex business card so this timing is perfect.

FYI the terms and conditions say there's a max purchase of 5 cards.

Ok, so I went to Foodland grabbed the $150 gift-card and got the 200air-miles. I then went to Sobeys and spent $149.75 and got a further 183 in air-miles because I bought 3 packs of bacon + 2 packs eggs (100 mile bonus) and I also bought 4 packs of hotdogs and 2 packs of hamburgers (another 75 miles).

Long story short I got 383 air-miles for $150 in groceries that I would have bought anyways.

Dude! Excellent haul. And that is quite the shopping list! Makes me hungry!

I also bought gift cards at Foodland, left the store and immediately went to Sobeys. My local Sobeys is one of the few in Ontario that sells beer! I picked up an additional 66 air miles on a $135.85 spend, half of which were tall boys. Love it!

I've been manipulating air-miles promos for years. I really used to clean-up on the old Shell 50 air-miles for $50 promos. You had to spend $50 to get 50 miles but a minimum of $25 had to be on gas, the rest could be on anything...lottery, gift-cards, food etc. So on the first transaction we would buy $25 in gas and a $25 Shell gift-card ($25 in gas, $25 in gift card = 50 miles). The second transaction was better...we would buy pay for $25 in gas on the existing gift-card and buy another $25 shell gift-card ($25 in gas on existing gift-card, $25 in Shell gift-card = $25 for 50 miles). By the time we had done 4 transactions we would have spent $125 and received 200 air-miles. I have 2 trucks, 2 cars, a motorcycle and a bunch of jerry cans. Long story short I usually ended up with 500 or more miles spending $275 or so dollars. I miss those days.

But these kinds of promos are pretty good. It really helps if you are cognizant of the different am promos. I got lucky this weeks that Foodland had the 200 miles gift-card promo at the same time as Sobey's had promos on things I normally buy.

I will add that I only use AM for regional flights to the U.S. and, though they have gotten worse in the last 3-4 years regional flights on AM are pretty reasonable. I've probably done about 15 AM flights over the last 6 years with an average cost of 1600 miles...that is 24,000 miles I have blown through and I currently have over 2000. That means I am earning about 4,400 miles/year and all of that has come from these kinds of promos.

100% CASH miles now, since I already cleared out all my DREAM miles in 2015 (by redeeming into BMO Investment Vouchers)
