We are preparing for baby #2 and I'm getting some cost's together.
I wasn't able to BF my 1st as I had no supply and we tried everything. I assume it'll be the same for #2.
For Momma's who formula feed, what brand do you use and how much does it cost you per can?
Thanks![]()

We used Enfamil A+ Gentlease, with the old packaging we got more, it was $28.99 a box I think. We generally bought one every 5 days or so... we never used the refills as we found they were rather expensive.
We gathered lots of coupons from save.ca, we asked all friends and family to mail any coupons they got as well to us. And had more coupons shipped to our work places and our parents home and any place we could think of.
It would often go on sale to about 23-26 range, and using a coupon brought it down. I know when Walmart did their anniversary sales it was listed and much cheaper, we bought a good stock from them that lasted a while.
We had issues with breastfeeding but I did try fenugreek to increase supply and drinking plenty of water and eating lots of soup, that and pumping which did increase supply quite a bit. but my little one is tongue tied and we had lots of latching issues so we could not breastfeed as much as we wanted.

Are you sure you won't be able to BF baby #2? I would certainly try...it's better, more convenient and cheaper than formula. Try seeking out a local chapter of La Leche League, and they'll help you with any problems you may have regarding breast feeding. I found it was largely a "mental game"...if you thought you couldn't produce enough for the baby, it was almost a self-fulfilling prophesy.

We breastfed and supplemented with formula and tried a bunch of different powdered formulas because my baby had bad gas.
It seems like each week one of these brands is on sale at a grocery store somewhere, usually for around $5 off the regular price. So once you figure out which is best for your baby, wait for a sale to stock up. It also helps if you have some coupons.
Good Start with Omega and Probiotics 640g - around $24.xx on sale - $5 coupons (Nestle baby program)
Similac Advance with Omega 728g - about $24.xx on sale - $5 coupon or cheques (from Similac Club)
Parent's Choice with Omega and Probiotics (Walmart) - $14.83 on sale
Kirkland with Omega 1.46kg - Costco $23.99 - $5 rebate

If you have a good relationship with your family doctor, you should ask if they have any samples.
My mom does my family doctors transcripts, so when I had the baby they told me how they get samples from formula companies, by the caseload. They also get cereal, butt paste etc
I use Good Start, and very thankfully have never had to pay for formula thanks to my doctor.
It cant hurt to ask

We use Similac with the omegas (so the expensive kind, ha!) It goes on sale for $24 and a bit from time to time. I try to use a $10 Similac cheque (comes with the package of the Similac club or I try to trade on Kijiji) so the cost of one can is just under $15. I do like that there are no taxes on infant formula.
We are switching to step 2 soon, after our son is done the sample cans and the ones we already bought - we're going to give him the Similac without omegas, which goes on sale for $18 and a bit from time to time, so again with a $10 Similac cheque, the cost of one can is just under $9 (these are bigger cans too 900 g vs 7xxg)
It sure is expensive. I tried to BF, but was unsuccessful ...

We use enfamil A+ our daughter was born with medical problems and was hospitalized for first 4 months of life she has to have fortified Forumla so she gets like 60% more calories than a regular baby so she goes through the those powder plastic containers one every 3 days it's pretty expensive I usually stock up when superstore has a no tax event and it's on for $25 I estimate Forumla costs us $250 a month buying like an RFDer(nothing not on sale). I would assume for an average child it would be more like 175ish

We had Twins and started using enfamil but switched to Parents Choice (Wal Mart Store Brand). We did a tonne of research and spoke to a couple pediatricians before making the switch. We had zero problems with it and saved a rediculous amount of money.
Essentially it comes down to this, all formula's have a basic standard that is enforced by law and the more expensive formula's add things like Omega's and use marketing etc.. they may provide some benefit but that's for you to decice, and if it's worth the added expense.
Parents Choice is about $13 a can and contains the same or more than the others at $25-30/can.
