I don’t think it was targeted. It seems related to launching Google One which is repackaged Drive, Photos, access to Google specialists blah blah. US offer was $5 credit that came to existing subscribers with paid additional storage.

If you guys have root and spare credits, Root Explorer is $4.50. Might as well use it and support the developer instead of pirating it. I find it to be one of the better file explorers.

My theory is they give you credits for whatever you don't use often. I never once got a book or movie from Google Play and I got a 5$ credit for books and a 1$ credit for movies. Nothing for apps.
