Free credit report canada

Hello guys,

I would like to know if this site is legit.

https://www.freecreditreportsincanada.c ... /004-9ba8/

it was an ad from rfd.

If you checked your credit, will that lower your score?

What else should i know? I have never done that before.

Thanks

Unless you have some pressing need to know your "score", just as easy to get your report direct from the bureaus.
http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc.nsf ... 02197.html

use the automated services for Equifax and Transunion by calling the phone numbers listed at the bottom.

Requesting your own report does not qualify as a "hard hit" and won't lower your score / credit worthiness.

Yes it is a legit site, and it won't cost you a cent as long as you cancel within 7 days. I've used it in the past, and had no problems canceling. Checking your own report is a soft check, and has no bearing on your credit score.

this was, without doubt, the worst experience in trying to access my "free credit report."

they take you to a different site that is really unclear on how to navigate.

after trying for about 15 minutes to locate where i can access my credit report, it took me to transunion's website.

needless to say, i don't recommend this method at all.

i just hope i cancelled my trial membership correctly, and i will call in the morning to confirm it.

yeah, just went to the yonge & finch location and got it quicker and in person.

don't know if that helps you, but if you're in the area, it takes no time at all.

I used that site last year. Confusing, but they basically give you a coupon code for transunion. Then you cancel the trial. Saved me $15 or w/e, and I got my report.

Wasn't that much of a hassle IMO

While that site seems to allow you to get your score for TransUnion for free (which is great), if you are trying to check your credit to see how everything looks, then you'll also want to check your credit report with Equifax as well. Some banks only use Equifax and don't always report on a TransUnion credit report.

If you are just focusing on your credit score and you don't want to shell out $15, you can use a free credit score estimator tool which will give you a pretty good idea of what your score is and what your score means. The cool thing about this tool is that you can try out different scenarios and see what kind of an impact they would have on your score. You can also get clear instructions on how to get a free credit report once a year.

I would only trust purchasing credit reports from the source. In Canada it is either Equifax or TransUnion. Not sure about validity of 3rd party companies.

http://www.equifax.ca
http://www.transunion.ca

Or you can request for a free report as many times as you like. Just following the instructions i found here geared towards Canadians:
http://www.credit-reports.ca/free-credit-reports/

Sometimes, if you have a good relationship with your bank, they are willing to pull the report for you, check your score and tell you where you stand. But when they pull reports, this will be logged on your credit report.
