Hi Guys,
We can support ATAs now, the process is manual and takes a couple emails back and forth and a phone call to get setup. We will have a signup page soon to ad functionality like this in near future.
The whole premise of the Freephoneline initiative is we engage corporate sponsors to pay your bills :-) [thats a good thing]
if you do not use our SIP client ... a big chunk of this revenue goes away.
So we have to cover your costs off by passing the fees off to you for setup and configuration. Basically we are a new phone company with our own facilities based network, that means with capital equipment we 'build' the network so we do not have large [and in some cases, any] ongoing monthly costs to build this network up. That is how we can make it sustainable.
Each account needs to cover off about $99 is you have your own ATA. We give you a SIP config you can load in your box and you are up and running with a freephoneline you don't have monthly fees for. You will still get some advertising you are encouraged to entertain. [this revenue helps us all have fantastic phones for no cost :-) ]
if you would like to buy a Linksys ATA from us, with configuration and your aggregate piece of network contribution... its $149. [$99+$49]
The ATA config has no "beta" testing portion to it, the SIP service is commercial grade and out of the box functionality.
If you would like to get setup, or have questions email us at support[at]freephoneline.ca.
Cheers,
Freephoneline.ca Employee

My incoming calls work now with the new version. Thanks.
I also made a successful call to Calgary the other day. I'm still unable to call London though. Roadius, can you help me out?

The box we provide will be UNLOCKED, you can later use it for anything you like should you decide to upgrade later, or whatever purpose.
It will be setup and configured out of the box for you to use right away by just plugging it into your router and a phone.

Account information
Hello All,
We just removed about 3000 accounts that had incorrect data in them. If your service was disconnected it was likely because of missing or incorrect information.
The service does require correct name and address to use the service, we certify the accounts after we confirm the information is correct - so we can provide 911 emergency service. Freephoneline is aiming to be a real alternative to your old telephone service and as such, we must abide by certain rules and regulations set out by the CRTC. One of them is to proved 911 service .... if you call 911 the emergency responce cannot be sent to :
asdf asdf St. :-)
...just want to help everyone to have a wonderful freephoneline experience.
Cheers,
Freephoneline.ca Employee

Bell's Throttling
Question to everyone using Bell's Sympatico:
For anyone who tried Free Home Phone Line, have you experienced interruptions? I have Bell Sympatico and perhaps it is their throttling that affects the quality of the call.
I have tried Free Home Phone Line at my 2 friends who use the provider that doesn't throttle and they are fine.

Everytime I try to update, it ends up saying update failed even though it appears to update properly.
Is this the current version:
FreePhoneLine version: 1.0.5.0
?

Roadius, some of the reasoning behind people providing inaccurate address information may to do with the fact that the service is so fantastic, but only 416 (Toronto) and 514 (Montreal) are the test bed. A lot people from 905 area are also interested. Is there a way to include 905 in the pilot run? FreePhoneLine would get real addresses from many more users... just a thought.
Given that about 3,000 telephone numbers were reclaimed, perhaps expanding the test to other highly populated areas? (The assumption is that FPL can exchange the reclaimed 416 for other area code telephone numbers)
In any case... good to see finally real alternative

New Version No Workie
Hi Roadius,
The software alerted me of the new version. I downloaded it and now I can't hear the other person when I make outgoing calls (but they can hear me)
Also still can't receive incoming calls.
I tried downloading the new version straight from the website but it still does the same. Anybody else having the same problem in Montreal?
Should I delete the software and create a new number?
