Free live TV streaming channels (now with Fox Kids, ESPN, Spike TV and Discovery)
As a companion to the free TV shows on the web thread for those who like live TV here's what I've been able to find:
Note: If you want to watch any of these on your TV you'll need a HDTV with HDMI input and a computer with DVI out along with a $10 DVI -> HDMI cable (or a HDTV with VGA in to jack in your computer via it's VGA out) . If you don't have these you'll need a video card with TV out.
Program downloads:
http://www.tvunetworks.com/
Most channels are crap however there is:
ABC
CBS
Fox
ABC
CW
Sci-Fi Network (the USA one)
Comedy Central 24 hour news station for the local LA area (great for those car chases)
You can view it on their website however if you want full screen you'll need to download the app. Note that the HBO that's listed isn't the real HBO - it seems to be some all Asian movie network with eng subs.
Also note that at least all the networks (ABC, CW and CBS) are west coast feeds so you'll need to factor in time zones.
A bevy from emorci! (thanks):

Found a bunch more like TVU listed here:
http://p2ptv.yourglobaltv.com/
as well as a service called www.tvants.com (not listed there) however they seem to be mainly interested in sporting events however if anyone tries it (or any of the other services) and sees if there's any real tv networks (aside from ESPN etc) like USA network or Cartoon Network please let us know
I haven't tried any of the ones listed on yourglobaltv or tvants but I'll post any good channels I come across.
As an aside if anyone is interested in watching BBC in WMP/VLC instead of embedded video on the channelsurfing site I've extracted what I *think* are the streams but there's there's a bunch of embedded code and I can't tell where the rtmp stream ends and the embed code begins:
{src: 'rtmp%3A//cp56493.live.edgefcs.net/live/bbc1_simcast@s3173%3Fauth%3DdaEbEcJbMcDbXdVdKdEdAd ldudXaJc5bocw-bjHDQK-cCp-BpqEIpFoOEuHtzC%26aifp%3Dxxxxxx',autostart: 'true',themeColor: '0395d3',mode: 'sidebyside',scaleMode: 'stretch',frameColor: '333333',fontColor: 'cccccc',link: '',embed: ''};var params = {allowFullScreen: 'true'};var attributes = {id: 'myPlayer',name: 'myPlayer'};swfobject.embedSWF('http://www32.websamba.com/channel12/c.swf', 'myPlayerGoesHere', '480', '360', '9.0.0', 'http://www32.websamba.com/channel12/b.swf', flashvars, params, attributes);

I give this 2 weeks before it is shut down, or at least the American stations removed.

You may be better off asking in the "tv shows on the web" thread since any pre-recorded back catalog stuff like that, if it's out there, would be in that thread.

Meh...According to it's Wikipedia entry TVU has been doing this since 2005 (where have I been!)
Besides, even if TVU or whatever goes down, there'll be another Chinese service (TVU is out of China) ready to take their place like Kazaa did with Napster and Bittorrent did with Kazaa.

TVants hasn't updated its main tracker in ages. And all the alternate ones have been offline for sometime now.
I started using TVU ages ago, when the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was being tape delayed by the Score. They had even more American channels back then, but they've been removed with C&D orders.
Also note that the BBC streams still black out some programs on the terrestrial channels. For example, Match of the Day is blacked out online... though you can more than easily download it from a UK torrent site.

Does that mean that the service is completely useless?

Hmmm...well it's a shame there used to be more but at least it bodes well that Comedy Central, Nick and Sci-Fi will remain if they haven't bothered to follow suit.

Thanks! I saw that recently and was wondering what I was missing. Good to hear (for me at least) that it's just sports programming.

This site ROCKS for live sports.
Be aware though you need to have a relatively fast connection, the games are literally HD quality.

Awesome! Thanks for the contribution.
What would you recommend for an ISP blocker? I've been using Hotspot Shield however it's been down on and off of late.

Yah I'm hoping someone can suggest an alternative as well.
Hotspot Shield does not work with Vista x64
