Freedom (Shaw) added LTE to older accounts

Got a text message/ email stating that Freedom added LTE to my account. I do have a LTE Phone: ZTE Grand X after Freedom sold it at its real price ie $100.

I did switch my plans after Shaw bought Wind.

Knew that holding off would pay off.

I just received a sms from freedom mobile
https://info.freedommobile.ca/enable-lte/
"We've added LTE on your plan! When your area is upgraded, more customers will enjoy LTE on their current phones. We'll reach out."

For your information, I am using their oldest back to school plan for $29 5GB data.
They finally give in and let everyone use LTE.

If I buy something that is not in deep discounted, my father will punish me; everyone will laugh at me. I will be the strange kid who doesn't fit in.

Got an email saying the same thing, phone hasn't switched to LTE so not sure if there's something we have to do on our end?

Follow their instruction and setup your phone and see.
But I think they use band 66. You will need to have a compatible phone.
I heard that the Motorola E4 you can get from amazon.com for cheap can use band 66.

Pixel 2 can probably use it too.

Instructions are just, set LTE as preferred and restart. I've got a Nexus 5X, anywhere I can check if it's supported?

it look like a smart move by Shaw to become a Big-4. they showed to Big3 that they are going to give tough competition in future.

They are upgrading, still the network is not set with new spectrum (time line is given on there site). so wait till the new spectrum not installed in your region after that repeat this process to access LTE network.

copied time line

"The LTE upgrade timeline Freedom has unveiled shows the improvements progressing at a fair clip; by mid-November the carrier hopes to light up the following locations: Abbotsford, BC Airdrie, AB Barrie, ON Brantford, ON Kingston, ON Kitchener-Waterloo, ON London and Woodstock, ON Ottawa, ON Peterborough, ON St. Catharines, Hamilton and Niagara, ON Windsor, ON In December, it expects to get to Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta, as well as Vancouver and Whistler in BC. By Spring 2018, it wants to have the Greater Toronto Area fully covered."

For your information, both note 4 and Nexus 5X and my Nexus 6p are not supported.
I am going to use my E4 and test it to see if LTE is working in Toronto.
