Fresh sea urchin in shell

Does anyone know of anywhere that sells fresh sea urchin in the shell? I remember reading somewhere several years that J Town have it, but none when I visited.

Not that I know of but it is fairly easy to open with spoons or scissors. Youtube has quite a few videos on how it do it.

I prefer the one's that Diana Seafood has in the trays. Find them to be creamier and not as fishy. Best to time it so you get some on the day they get their shipment in.

Hey,
If your looking for Uni, I can get them only in trays. They are 10 rows in a tray. Need 2 days in advance. Let me know and GL with your search if you want to pry them open. Smiling Face With Open Mouth

T&T near Woodbine & 16th definitely carries it -seen at least 3 times there. But as with all seafood can be a miss on the particular day you go.

As for sea urchin in the shell goes - I've heard from some folks to disagree that fresh urchin is the best in quality. Some sea urchin lovers prefer urchin that has been out of the shell for a bit and will buy the ones in the tray etc. asserting that it has more complex flavour and has a chance to evaporate some water content so as to have a more rich concentrated flavour. I would say I have to agree and prefer non-super-fresh sea urchin.

I find the uni in the box at Galleria to be pretty good quality. Goes for about $20 for 10 pieces and $15 on sale.

I bought a few in shell at T & T last time but weren't good at all. The cleaning of the sea urchin was a mess and it was super super fishy/slimy taste. Would prefer the trays as well.

I don't intend to open them myself. We're travelling, so no utensils.

If it's slimy and slimy, we might just skip the fresh ones in shell.
