[Fresh Co] Campbell's Condensed soup (different varieties) - 50c

If you are like my dad (old and cheap) this is a great deal.

He was told max is 24 cans of one variety. He bought 48 mixed cans.

Says it's good as a soup base.

...and then add cheese and try it again.

That stuff is freakishly good in hundreds of dishes.

Ya. My other half made a bean casserole last night. Not to shabby.

Not sure why I got downvoted.

Canned soups can be sky-high in sodium, which, when overdone, can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. So opt for low-sodium soups whenever possible, says Dr. Young, and aim to not exceed 350 mg. (When soups boast added health benefits, including hefty vegetable portions, you can go up to 480mg, but add water before boiling to dilute.) Skip creamed soups, too, says Dr. Young, which are fats- and calorie-loaded, and opt for tomato- or vegetable-based broths. (Pro tip: If craving thickness, look for vegetable puree as an ingredient.)
To give you some perspective, the Health Canada recommended daily intake is between 1000 and 1500 mg (Health Canada). Even more shocking is that this “Healthy” soup has almost twice as much sodium as a Large order of french fries (420mg) at McDonalds (McDonalds nutrition calculator).

Gotta love it when the health police people have to always chime in. Those same people probably have that Mcdonalds app on their phone

https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... r-on-salt/

"This week a meta-analysis of seven studies involving a total of 6,250 subjects in the American Journal of Hypertension found no strong evidence that cutting salt intake reduces the risk for heart attacks, strokes or death in people with normal or high blood pressure. In May European researchers publishing in the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that the less sodium that study subjects excreted in their urine—an excellent measure of prior consumption—the greater their risk was of dying from heart disease. These findings call into question the common wisdom that excess salt is bad for you, but the evidence linking salt to heart disease has always been tenuous."

Tldr; if you have a pre-existing medical condition such as heart disease, lower sodium may or may not decrease your risk of a heart attack. If you have no pre-existing condition, lowering your sodium arbitrarily is bad for you.

I've stopped buying Campbell's soup as I can make far better with a crock pot. We have no Freshco in Thunder Bay anyway. The only soups I used to like they removed from their line up including Turkey Noodle and Chunky Vegetable. No replacements unless I make my own...

I like that you call it old man soup. Totally true. A coworker who is old and a farmer eats this stuff all day long. Seriously a person who has unlimited good beef and produce likes can soup that makes him farm every 13 minutes.

Old man soup!

I stock them up to watch with late night shows/movies (as is tradition) and these only come on sale every 3ish months. Expiry date, like previously said, is over a year easily.

Also, Food Basics has this exact same sale this week if you guys are not near any Freshco.

Great soup!
