front panel audio header connector (pc case)

My antec sonata III case supports both AC97 and intel high def audio for it's front panel, it has 2 connectors, 1 for each. My Gigabyte AM3 mobo also supports both, I have a choice of using either one, the question is which one is better?

HD Audio is newer. It supports features such as jack detection (eg. if you plug headphones into the front jack, it will automatically mute the speakers/line_out).

thanks, but I thought all jacks have detection, I remember back in the days when I plug headphone in it will auto mute line out.

Yeah, sorry, I think you're right. I was/am mixing an AC97 case with HD Audio, so the jack detection/disabling doesn't work properly.

In any case, I would go with HD Audio. I don't think they would have made it worse than AC97. :)
