Yes the desktop is barely usable - may be worth it for the Windows 10 license for re-use

The laptop is probably good enough for basic web surfing and email eg. when travelling.

Funny that this old slow poke desktop can run Win 10 when I was unable to upgrade my faster E5400 machine.

With a fresh installation instead of an upgrade, you might be able to.

I think Windows 10 is backward compatible. Try installing a fresh copy (without CD-Key), and see if it works.

Thanks for your reply. Would that mean having to pay for it, rather than a free upgrade?

Offtopic...
How are you purchasing from fry's? I've been able to place some orders in the past with them (shipping to my us mailbox), but recently none of my cc's worked. Called the CC company...they approve the transaction, but fry's shows "invalid card".
Strangely I am now able to order from newegg.com...previously that and canon.com were the only places in the I could never get to work.

This machine will be good for holding the door open. I am greedy these days and spoiled I want an SSD lots of ram fast cpu. This is good if you just want a basic computer.to watch I don't know YouTube or read news papers. Even then I don't think 2gb of ram is enough to handle windows 10.

If you have a spare 2 GB DDR3 stick to bump it up to 4 GB, plus an old SSD, the machine would be passable for a basic email/web surfer/MS Word machine.
