[Future Shop] FS: Denon 5.1 Channel HDMI 1080p $349

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/prodde ... ail_weekly

Hot or not?

I am looking for a good receiver to process Dolby HD from a PS3/HDPVR and 1080p output.

Pretty decent deal if it's a true HDMI and not a pass-through.

If anyone got this and I wanted to set it up for 2.1 speakers (limited space), which speakers do you recommend that I can get with a $500 budget (including the $349 receiver).

TY.

Looks like it does the job but not familiar with this model. Anyone have any thoughts?

Do the HDMI inputs on this amp accept audio too? So I'd only need to run an HDMI cord from my XBox, PS3 and HDPVR to the reciever and not worry about audio cables?

I just picked up the Energy CB-20 bookshelf speakers last week at FS w/ an Energy ESW-C8 Sub and I'm quite happy w/ this 2.1 setup until I buy the centre channel and a couple of surrounds.

Last week's prices were:
Energy CB-20 ($279 on sale - 20% online speaker sale = $223 + taxes)
Energy ESW-C8 ($299 reg price - 20% online speaker sale = $239 + taxes)

They sound great w/ my Denon AVR-789

This setup hovers around your $500 price range.

They should be similar pricing on/near boxing day.

.....nevermind - just saw that you want to spend $500 all in (receiver + speakers)

quote from cnet:

"Key features of the Denon AVR-590:

5.1 channel AV receiver
Three HDMI inputs
Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby Pro Logic IIz decoding
Upconverts analog video signals over HDMI to 480p
Text-based onscreen display
Two component video inputs
No S-Video inputs
Three digital audio inputs (two optical, one coaxial)
Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic Volume "

upconverts to 480p only, kind of disappointing, but given the price, it's acceptable.

I rather have the PS3/DVD player do the upconverting anyway.
To me, it may not be a fit as I may need 2 HDMI outputs ( switching at least). Are there such receivers?

big $$$ for a dual hdmi output. Why do you need this, for a projector & TV?

way cheaper to get a hdmi splitter after the receiver

has 1 svideo on the rear. also the upconvert is fluff. if you get a decent player, have that do the upconverting. the receiver should just do a good job of driving the speakers and controlling your video selection. video processing shouldn't be it's responsibility.
