[Future Shop] Pioneer HTP-071 Surround Sound System $299.99

It's regular $499. (they have changed the website, and it shows up as "regular" $299 - but it's not. When I looked last month it was $499.)
On sale $299.
At some stores, you can get an additional 10% off because of an 'open box'.
I picked this up for $269+tax recently, at the Kennedy Rd/Lawrence Ave East store in TO.

As a futureshop home theatre salesperson I would say you're much better off getting this system.

Pros over the pioneer
-active sub(capability of upgrading to better subwoofer)
-6-16ohm capability(capability of upgrading to better speakers)
-on screen display

I always recommend people buy the denon over the pioneer, the denon is a component amplifier where the pioneer is an htib amplifier which is no better than any sony, samsung,lg,panasonic etc.

The guy who helped me at the Kennedy/Lawrence FutureShop recommended the Pioneer over the Denon... I may have to pay him a visit again...

I haven't checked lately, but he might make more off the pioneer.

I swapped out the Pioneer (open box) for the Denon (brand new).
After tweaking (moving input to max, speaker output to max) etc I think it's good.
How do I go about making the plastic speakers not sound so plasticy?

There isnt a lot you can do about the plasticy sound. Best bet is to play with the sound settings. Try different sound modes with the remote too. Both the Pioneer and Denon, have very cheap speakers that come with them. The Denon offers the ability to upgrade to better speakers. I would keep your eye out for a set of energy take classics going on sale.

Nadrojcote,
What receiver only do you recommend for Home Theatre (not high end) without the speakers and sub woofer (since these speakers are not good)?

For $100 more you can get this 7.1 system with better, wooden enclosure, larger speakers/sub:

I've had it for nearly two years now.

Also I recommend shipping it to your home since the box is huge/heavy.

$200 to $300

Fifteen years ago I purchased top of the line Denon (AVR 3800) for $5000 just for the receiver. Hardly ever used it....it was just waste of money. Now I just want to go with low range decent receiver that will be obsolete in few years.

or the pioneer 523 provided they have fixed the issues with last years version. We had a lot of the 522's come back defective. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/ ... ageIndex=1
at that price range, isn't it better to wait for deal with costco or other sale products? the Product seems expensive for a receiver without bluetooth or wifi. Pironeer, Sony and Dennon all announced their 2013 models. I would assume all their 2012 models will be getting huge discounts soon

you can get a pioneer 822 for the same price as the 523 it adds networking, most receivers dont come with wifi or bluetooth, they are sold seperately as adapters. For this price youre not gonna get an amp with wifi or bluetooth.

Any inexpensive speaker stand recommendations Nadrojcote? Thanks in advance.
